Kate Gardener Mysteries #5
It was about halfway through the food, and a couple of drinks in, before Pierce started talking.
“I suppose you heard about yesterday.”
Kate nodded. “Yeah, I heard. You seem pretty calm about it.” Pierce nearly choked on the sip of beer he was taking, but his coughing dissolved into laughter that went just a little too long, and too intensely, for Kate’s comfort.
“Calm. Yeah.” Pierce took another, larger sip of beer, swallowing without difficulty. “Let’s just say… I have to buy a new boxing bag.”
Kate grimaced. “Killed it, huh?”
“Oh yeah, it’s dead.” Pierce winked at that, and Kate sighed internally, relieved as she felt the tension begin to ebb away.
“So, what’s the next step? What’s Reynolds going to do?”
Pierce finished chewing a mouthful of his burger before he replied. “Mister Reynolds is employing an investigator to check things out. More accurately, check me out, and see if he can find some way to prove that I didn’t beat the confession out of Eddowes, or plant the murder weapon.” He grabbed up a couple of rosemary salt chips, but hesitated before putting them in his mouth. “It will be over soon, one way or another.”
Kate frowned. “One way or another? What is that?”
Pierce sighed raggedly, and chewed on, even as he spoke. “That is me being realistic.”
“Realistic.” Kate studied Pierce, the frown not leaving her face until her scrutiny came to an end. “Huh… okay, so, realistically… how much of it is true?”

Summer, and the city is heating up…
When a scandalous tabloid reporter is gunned down in broad daylight, the question isn’t who did it, but who wouldn’t? The man had “dirt” on some of the biggest names in politics and business, and rumor has it he was ready to break something big… a scandal that could threaten the upcoming elections, and even the very foundations of government.
Caught up in a tide of crime and controversy, where friend and foe alike are poised upon the razor’s edge…
DS Richard Pierce finds his career and his reputation in peril when he is accused of planting evidence to frame the “Cathgate Ripper”, a vicious serial killer whose trial is poised to begin. Convinced of his innocence, Kate Gardener races desperately to gather evidence to salvage the case and exonerate Pierce.
Kate has balanced on that edge before… but will she be able to save her friends without falling from grace herself?

Kate let out a whoosh of air, and wilted a bit. This was proving to be a more complicated evening of coffee and conversation than she’d anticipated…
“Parris, who are we really trying to save here?”
Parris grimaced, and pinched the bridge of his nose, doubtless to stifle the emotions that were on the threshold of overwhelming him. “I don’t know anymore… My father is… my father… but…” He trailed off, at a loss for words.
“Okay, let me ask you this.” Kate paused a moment, gathering her words. “Do you believe that your brother will be a good Prime Minister if he’s elected?”
Parris didn’t hesitate, nodding enthusiastically. “Absolutely. Yes.”
Kate nodded slowly. To save the son, they’d have to save the father, even if he didn’t deserve it… “Can you get the note for me? And anything else related to this?”
Parris nodded again. “Yes, of course. What are you going to do?”
A ‘Mona Lisa’ smile appeared on Kate’s face. “I’ll do what I can.”

Every time she opened her sassy little mouth, I imagined my dick in it.
Losing my virginity was a big step. Losing it to a giant green ogre would be a monumental one.
Patience, little princess. Naughty girls get only what Daddy wants to give and nothing more.
No more Mr. Nice Daddy
The princess was destined to be mine. She just didn’t know it yet.
Sparks fly, skirts go up and panties come down. My stubborn princess will learn that her Ogre Daddy is determined to turn our nightmare into the ultimate happily ever after.
“Are you ready to talk, little princess?”
“Good, come here then please.” Her cheeks were tinged with a blush of color as she made her way over to me. I sat down on the floor and pulled her into my lap. “Listen, I know we have a long road of recovery ahead of us. Two years of hurt are not going to magically disappear, but consider this step one. No more self-deprecation. You are an intelligent woman, and you can find productive ways to convey your insecurities. No more name calling. Got it?”
She laid her head on my chest as I spoke, and I wrapped my arms around her. “Speaking those things gives them power so even if they live up here”—I tapped her head—“they need to stay out of here.” I moved my finger to her mouth and circled her lips.
She surprised me by snapping at my finger almost catching it in her teeth.
“Brat.” I stood her on her feet and faced her toward me. Cupping her shoulders I looked her straight in the eyes. “I mean it, Ari. If I hear any more of that nonsense, I’m going to spank your ass cherry red. No more Mr. Nice Daddy.”
“Okay, I get it. Can I go back to bed now?” She wasn’t taking my threat seriously, I could tell. That was mostly my fault, I had definitely made empty threats, but it obviously was not doing either of us any favors. The little princess was in for a rude awakening next time she poked her ogre.
“Grayson, I want you.”
I stopped dead in my tracks, not even sure that I had heard her quite right. My heart beat fast, and my blood pressure rose. My cock twitched, and I ached with need. Every feeling of arousal I had spent the last hour pushing back rushed to the surface.
I turned to look at her, and the moment my eyes met hers, I knew I had heard correctly. Her eyes were filled with vulnerability and need, and she chewed softly on her bottom lip, looking up at me, then down at the floor, and up at me once more.
God, I wanted her. And she wanted me. I knew that—had known it for a while. But there was one big obstacle. One big green obstacle.
“I’ll hurt you,” I whispered.
She drew a shaky breath and her gaze zoomed in on my bulging crotch. I swore I saw her gulp.
“I want you to,” she answered.
His cock was erect with its usual morning wood, but it was no longer green and, while still quite impressive, was now considerably… less large. We both stood staring it it in complete silence until finally Grayson spoke.
“Well, shit. I’m kinda going to miss the big green guy. We were just getting to the fun stuff.”
Grinning, I leaned against him, reaching down to wrap my hand around his now human dick. “I’m thinking we can have plenty of fun with this guy too, even if he is a little late to the party.”
“Mmm.” His lips nuzzled my neck, and his cock twitched in my grasp. My girly parts tingled as they came to life, all but begging to be introduced to this new hunk of flesh. I pressed my body against his, wrapping my arms around his neck, ready to take this celebration into the bed where it belonged.
“We could start right now,” I whispered, grabbing his hand and pulling him back toward the bed.
He moaned loudly, and pushed himself away, creating distance between us. “You have no idea how good that sounds, and I assure you it will happen, but, it seems like there are more pressing matters to attend to at the moment. Because, you know, I went to bed a huge, green ogre, just as I have every night for the past two years, and somehow, I woke up a human. With human size parts. I’m kind of dying to know how that happened, and what this silver lining you were rambling about is.”

Anastasia Lintel never wanted for more than a simple existence, arranging flowers in her father’s shop, catering to the soft-palmed elite. However, when tragedy strikes, taking with it the only family she has ever known, Anastasia must adapt to an unexpected new life.
Decreed missive in hand, Nathaniel Fitzpatrick, Duke of Avondale, descends on Anastasia’s flower shop like an invading storm, removing her from her ordinary world with little explanation and thrusting her into his extravagant life.
Anastasia quickly realizes the Duke is the least of her troubles when she meets his four scandalous brothers. Each sibling is rivaling in intensity, physical prowess, and the unrelenting quest to see her gone, but none is as dangerous as their leader, Clinton Fitzpatrick.
Anastasia’s litany of questions regarding The Duke’s guardianship over her will have to wait while she tries to figure out how to manage her new role and the tormenting Lords that come with it.
With their wealth, power and mystery, these Lords set a stage that is far from ordinary. Will Anastasia be able to survive them until she turns one-and-twenty, or gets married, whichever comes first? Or will she lose herself in their glittering world that is anything but what it seems…
The cover is basic but delivers a message and secret about what you may read. When I read the blurb I knew it would be an adventure I wanted to be in. Before you even finish with the first chapter the author has entangled you in her historical romance. The writing style was smooth and fluent so as a reader you wouldn’t be bored or confused on what was happening with the story. You can tell as you progress through the novel the author has taken great pride and did her research because it fits perfectly within the time period that the story happened. In honesty there were times where the author fed you breadcrumbs in the middle at the perfect time so you questioned what was going on but still may not have figured it out. As the story unfolds so does secrets well kept. The authors description of not just the characters but also of the people were described so if you closed your eyes you knew what, where, and who at any given time. I loved Anastasia because she was feisty and not one to kneel down when put to the test. Her force is one to be reckoned with by any man or in this case a houseful of them. As much as I just want to go into detail about everything I will not ruin it for others.
I will definitely want to read more from this author especially if all her other work pulls you in to continue reading such as this one did. I will close with this if you have not picked this gem up you need to grab it now. I promise you will not be disappointed.

Julie glanced at the clock on the nightstand and groaned. Nine a.m. She rolled over and stuffed a pillow over her head to muffle the noise coming from next door. Normally, she’d have been up for hours, checking on the brewing vats, but last night had been another one of those nights. Colin Parker and his infernal kiss had invaded her dreams, and she’d woken in the middle of the night, hot, horny, and unable to get back to sleep until nearly dawn.
The sound of a lawn mower, punctuated by the occasional clunk followed by a loud curse, finally drew her out of bed and to the window. Her room, located at the rear of the house above the kitchen, overlooked the neighboring property.
A shiny new red pickup truck sat in front of the old barn. “I guess he really did buy the place,” she said to Bud who sat in the middle of her bed watching her and probably wondering when she was going to take him out to do his morning duty. She was about to oblige him when Colin Parker, walking behind a lawn mower, turned the corner of his new house.
“Oh. My. Lord.” Jesus, did he have to mow shirtless? Quickly, she stepped to the side so he wouldn’t see her ogling his wide shoulders and six-pack abs. He looked even better than her subconscious had imagined he would look, and she’d thought she’d done a pretty good job, based on her limited exposure to the man. “Honey,” she said to herself, “you weren’t even close.”

(Re-Release of Pit Perfect)
When cougar-shifter Lily Mason moves to Moonrise, Missouri, she wishes for only three things from the town and its human population. . . to find a job, to find a place to live, and to live as a human, not a therianthrope.
Lily gets more than she bargains for when a rescue pitbull named Smooshie rescues her from an oncoming car, and it’s love at first sight. Thanks to Smooshie, Lily’s first two wishes are granted by Parker Knowles, the owner of the Pit Bull Rescue center, who offers her a job at the shelter and the room over his garage for rent.
Lily’s new life as an integrator is threatened when Smooshie finds Katherine Kapersky, the local church choir leader and head of the town council, dead in the field behind the rescue center. Unfortunately, there are more suspects than mourners for the elderly town leader. Can Lily keep her less-than-human status under wraps? Or will the killer, who has pulled off a nearly Pit Perfect murder, expose her to keep Lily and her dog from digging up the truth?
Fall in love with Lily Mason, the shifter who only wants to live as a human, and her pit bull Smooshie, a rescue dog who in the end may be the one doing the rescuing!
Pit Perfect Murder, Book 1 of the Barkside of the Moon Mysteries from USA Today bestselling paranormal cozy mystery author Renee George, is an exciting tale of mystery and suspense that will have you on the edge of your seat. A clean read full of humor and small town charm.
Murder & The Money Pit (Book 2)
(Re-Release of The Money PIt)’
Shifter Lily Mason and her pit bull Smooshie are once again on the trail of a murderer and this time close to home!
Sometimes, trying to be part of the human world can be a real killer. . . Cougar-shifter Lily Mason is ready to put down roots in the human town of Moonrise, Missouri. She only has two problems: her attraction and proximity to Parker Knowles, her boss at the Pit Bull Rescue Shelter, and her need to shift into animal form more than once a month.
When she gets the opportunity to buy a “fixer-upper” outside of Moonrise with plenty of room to get wild without running into easily freaked-out humans, Lily jumps at the chance. Smooshie, Lily’s lovable pit bull and partner in chaos, is eager to participate with the home improvements. Unfortunately, Smooshie’s help includes digging out a mummified body from the living room wall.
Lily is still recovering from the last murder investigation she got involved in–and she’s not looking forward to being in the middle of another one. The case gets even stickier when Lily’s landlord is murdered, rumors of a heist gone wrong run rampant, and Parker’s old high school buddies have returned to Moonrise, thus increasing the suspect pool. Lily’s attempts to become a bona fide citizen of Moonrise might well be thwarted by this newest complication–especially when the murderer sets sights on her.
Murder & The Money Pit, Book 2 of the Barkside of the Moon Mysteries from USA Today bestselling paranormal cozy mystery author Renee George, is a gripping murder mystery that keeps you guessing from beginning to end!
The Pit List Murder (Book 3)
Lily Mason and her adorable pittie Smooshie both have a nose for murder, but this is one cougar-shifter who would give her left paw to never find another dead body. All she wants is to enjoy a simple life in her new town, her fixer-upper house, while working a job she loves.
Besides, the mystery of whether Parker Knowles, her boss at the rescue shelter, will or won’t finally ask her out gives Lily plenty to keep her guessing.
But when an abandoned pit bull puppy leads Lily and Smooshie to the corpse of a local Lothario, she is once again drawn into the seedier side of small town living. Even though she’s warned off the case by the local sheriff, Lily is determined to find the killer. It doesn’t help matters that more nasty notes are showing up around town, making Lily wonder if the two things are connected.
Lily and Smooshie need to crack the case of the dead Don Juan, while navigating what it means to live in an all human town, before the secrets of the people she cares for are exposed.
The PIt List Murders, Book 3 of the Barkside of the Moon Mysteries from USA Today bestselling paranormal cozy mystery author Renee George, is a gripping murder mystery that keeps you guessing from beginning to end!
USA Today Bestselling author Renee George writes paranormal mysteries and romances because she loves all things whodunit, Otherworldly, and weird. Also, she wishes her pittie, the adorable Kona Princess Warrior, and her beagle, Josie the Incontinent Princess, could talk. Or at least be more like Scooby-Doo and help her unmask villains at the haunted house up the street.
When she’s not writing about mystery solving werecougars or the adventures of a hapless psychic living among shapeshifters, she is preyed upon by stray kittens who end up living in her house because she can’t say no to those sweet, furry faces. (Someone stop telling them where she lives!)
She resides in Mid-Missouri with her family and spends her non-writing time doing really cool stuff…like watching TV and cleaning up dog poop.

Spending time with River, Jax discovers a peace he’s never known. Their passion unlocks a side of himself he didn’t even know he was missing. When an old enemy makes his first move, Jax and River find themselves fighting for their lives. But when his past is revealed, will River be caught in the crosshairs of a global conspiracy?
“Hello. I’m Jax.” His voice was deep but there was a musical quality to it. She would bet he could sing. “This is my brother, Tucker.”
Brothers. They oddly didn’t look a lot alike, but she’d seen siblings who she would never have guessed came from the same parents. Tucker wasn’t bad himself. Dark, wavy hair any woman would love to have. It was slightly overgrown but did nothing but enhance his male-model beauty. He seemed far softer than his incredibly masculine friend.
Her first impression of Jax hadn’t been false. He was broad and muscular, his face defined by stark planes and lines.
He looked predatory and hungry.
She could barely breath. Maybe this was a mistake. She would have a hard time watching this gorgeous man fawn all over Heather. Something about him pulled her in, made her want to forget that she had terrible taste in men. It was like there was some invisible tether connecting her to him.
Except that was stupid because he couldn’t be here for her.
“I’m Heather and my very quiet friend’s name is River.” Heather was smiling that ridiculously sunny smile of hers, the one no man could resist. “Thanks for the fries. You know normally men send over drinks. I’m glad you’re so concerned with consent. That’s very forward thinking of you.”
Tucker shook his head. “We’re not allowed to have sex without consent. Do we need a note? Like a contract?”
Jax jabbed an elbow in his brother’s ribs. “He’s being a weirdo and moving way, way too fast. Sorry about that. He doesn’t get out much.”
Tucker frowned and said something under his breath that sounded like neither do you, but then a sweet smile came over his face. “Sorry. Sometimes my jokes fall flat. Can we please join you? We’re in town for a week or so and besides the Russian dude, we haven’t met anyone.”
“Sure.” Heather slid over.
River did the same, expecting Tucker to slide in next to her, but it was Jax’s big body that moved beside her. She felt tiny compared to him. She watched as Heather grinned her way as though to say you were wrong.
Tucker sat beside Heather and started passing out the small plates.
Jax probably wanted to be able to look at Heather. That was it.
God, he smelled good. She kind of wanted to lean over and run her nose along his shoulder and up his neck. He smelled like soap and sandalwood.
“Can I get you some? I like French fries but they’re even better with cheese and bacon. I think maybe everything is better with cheese and bacon, but if you want something else, I’ll get it for you. You can have anything on the menu.
And I’ll buy the wine or beer or whatever. I merely wanted you to understand I don’t want to get drunk tonight. I would rather get to know you.”
She turned, expecting to see Jax staring across at Heather. Nope. Those stunning green eyes were staring at her expectantly. He had a plate in his hand as though waiting for her permission to serve her.
Her. He was looking at her.
“She does talk,” Heather said. “I’ve heard her and everything.”
“Yeah, I would love some.” She was hungry, actually. It was odd. Her stomach kind of rumbled, but in a good way.
For the last year and a half it seemed she’d lost her appetite and had to force herself to eat, but tonight she smelled the fries and cheese and bacon and wanted.
And she wanted him, too. She wasn’t going to lie to herself. This time she would be smart. If he turned out to be a nice guy, she might spend the night with him. Might. And then she would send him on his way because he was a tourist.
She wouldn’t fall for him because she wouldn’t spend more than a night.
