His secrets could destroy her…

New Orleans, 1817

Colette Kincaid once knew such love and delicious passion in the arms of her pirate husband, Donato de la Roche. Yet Colette could not continue to live as the wife of a pirate, when reunited with her family. So she fled, taking their son with her and reconciling herself to never seeing her husband again…

Until their son is taken.

Donato is convinced his wife is behind his son’s disappearance-just as she is convinced he is the villain. Now they’re unable to leave each other’s side as they seek their child, forced to confront the desire that still smolders between them. But Donato knows that soon he must face the secret about Colette he’s been hiding for so long. And it’s a secret for which there is no forgiveness…

ato retraced his steps back up the hill and toward the stables. Colette tried to keep up with him, but fell on the cobblestones of the large walkway. She didn’t cry out for help, but struggled to get to her feet. Her robe was soaked from the dampness, and her hair stuck to her face.

Donato raced back and scooped her up before she could resist his help. He changed direction and headed for the inner patio.

“No, I go with you,” she protested.

“No, this time you do as I say.”

“But I can ride now.”

“One ride does not make you a rider. You slow me down. Wait here.” He pushed through the outside gate and ran the length of the gardens to enter the inner gate, taking an immediate left into his room, then hers. He put her on the bed and turned to leave when he caught her grimace of pain as her body shivered from the wet robe. He unbuttoned her wet robe and peeled it off her body, then covered her with a warm quilt. She pulled it up to her chin, her teeth chattering.

“Merci.”

From under the coverlet, he pulled off her boot and started to massage her ankle, because it was habit, because he cared, because it was what he had always done when she was in pain and it had always worked. She groaned, rolling her head from side to side, her breathing labored. A slight film of perspiration shone across her forehead.

“Relax, cariño.” As everything else he was doing by habit, so was his sobriquet for her. He dismissed his mistake and ran his hands over and over her ankle, working the muscles to release under his expert fingers. He felt them give, and Colette moaned. “Better?”

She kept her eyes closed, but her thrashing had ended and her breathing had calmed back to normal. “It is better. Only you have such a touch, Donato.”

He looked down at his hands on her sore ankle. Her skin glowed like porcelain in the fire-washed room, smooth as silk beneath his coarse fingers, fragile and delicate. He felt her female energy rush through his body with unrepentant heat. He allowed his hand to travel upward along her leg, kneading her calf with the palm of his hand. How easy it would be to slide along her body, dipping into every contour, emerging in more need of her. He heard a slight intake of air as he pushed his hand up behind her knee.

“It is better?” He massaged her knee, wanting to move his hand upward along the inside of her thigh.

“I hurt no more. I appreciate.”

He withdrew his hand before tucking her leg in under the quilt. Without thought, he leaned down to kiss her on the forehead. The moment his lips touched her warm skin, he knew he had fallen into the habit of what he had always done in the past. But she wasn’t his anymore, and that little touch of affection should not have happened. He straightened up, feeling her gaze on him.

“Are you all right? I need to check the ship,” he said as dispassionately as he could.

I love picking up a good novel and becoming lost into the storyline!  There are many historical romances; however, not many that have a perfect combination of historical and pirate hero entwined. A Pirates Command, is filled with non stop action as the the main characters try to win over what was once lost while trying to also find their son. They have a chemical reaction to each other and even though the trust is gone, sparks are still there and stronger than ever.  Can Donato and Collete come together and figure out the truth behind the disappearance of their son.
As the story falls in line, secrets are uncovered and the plot literally unfolds with you in the story. I love the characters and how the author portrays them with their strong yet weaknesses during situations, just like realistically events. You see how they love and the passion that flows off the pages. The author fills this gem up with mystery, suspense, and lots of passion to keep you turning that the end of the novel comes up without you realizing it. The flow is impeccable and any writing that makes me sink into the story is one that is sure to be re-read!

Yes watch out this does have a cliffhanger but the author will leave you in such a book hangover and hunger for more that you will be jumping for the next one. I highly recommend this author and novel for your next Historical Pirate addiction!

About Meg Hennessy

Meg Hennessy

Meg Hennessy read her first historical romance when Rosemary Rodgers’, Sweet Savage Love, swept the college campuses. She won’t admit how many years ago that was, but was forever hooked on the genre of happy-ever-afters. Meg grew up immersed in the culture of her father’s old Southern family and writes with a Southern flavor. It was her sense of wonderment when visiting her grandmother’s home as a child that now bubbles upward into her writing of today, creating steamy nights of intrigue and romance.

She had been writing for years, but seriously pursued publication in 2009. Seeking authenticity for her first novel, she researched hundreds of books, visited numerous battlefields, and toured antebellum homes. When it came to putting pen to paper, Meg found her story-telling voice, as her heroine simply stepped into Shadows of a Southern Moon, winning the 2010 EPIC Award for best Historical Romance and launching her writing career.

Meg lives amid the beautiful rolling hills of southeastern Wisconsin. Besides writing and spoiling her much-loved horse, she enjoys backyard birding, nature walks, and admits to being a gardening addict. Having spun stories for years, she enjoys seeing her dream come true as her characters spring to life and step within the beautifully bound pages of a romance novel.
