I'll Take A Chance Blog Teaser 1

“Leave the shoes on honey,” I whisper.

I am so ready to just sink into her, but I’m fully aware that I need to see to her needs first. And that is something I can do willingly. I have been thinking about the first time nonstop. She was so responsive, and it is something I can quickly become addicted to.

I make my way down and she smells so damn good. She’s breathing heavy, anticipating my next move. Just like last time she’s on fire. Her legs start twitching as she writhes beneath me. It doesn’t take her long and she’s coming in my mouth, screaming my name. She digs those amazing heels in my back and I need to be inside her now. While she rides her orgasm back down, I reach in the night stand for a condom. I’m so turned on by just the noises she was making I don’t think it will take me long to find my own release. Rolling the condom on, I take my position over top of her. I can see the look of want in her eyes. She grabs my neck and pulls me down for a fierce kiss. I know she can taste herself on my lips and it’s beyond fucking hot. I slowly enter her and she makes whimpering noises.

“Oh, that feels so good,” she says.

I sink all the way in and start to move slowly. She’s so verbal and it feels so good I can feel myself quickly at the brink. She bucks her hips and flips me over on my back. In one swift movement she’s riding me hard and deep. She bends her knees up and plants her feet on either side of my hips. She then leans back and places her hands on my knees. She moves slowly as her head falls back, the ends of her long blonde hair brush my upper thighs.

Review by Sue Ellen

This book apparently is book 2, but let me tell you that even if you haven’t read book 1 you will not be lost. This book can be a stand alone, because I didn’t read the first one and was not lost at all. From the beginning you meet the main character Amelia who seems like a disaster but in reality she really isn’t. She crashed into Dr. Sexy Kyle Peters while she was on her way to see her sister in law at the hospital. Talk about crashing into love. 🙂

Amelia, has had a hard time letting go of what her ex boyfriend said and did to her. After all this time she still had some emotional and insecurities due to that.  However, she has never opened up and told anyone until now! Not only will one but more so she can find out how to figure out to move forward. When I said she is a walking disaster I think it is only when she is around Kyle, because it seems like every time she sees him she runs, cuts, or hits something. However, when he shows her that he is truly what he seems she starts to let him in. Kyle Peters has some issues of his own too, his are more than just emotional ones and when they start to interfere with him and Amelia things start to become dangerous. I am not just talking about relationship dangerous! This book is full of surprises, dangers, and a passionate love story that struggles with everyday things!

This author knows how to bring to you a book that will make you want more. I will definitely have to go back and read Willow and Asher’s story! You can tell that there will be more to come because Amelia does have brothers that are unmarried, so I look forward to reading them. Go pick up your copy now it is an amazing romance!

I am an “Indie” adult contemporary romance author. I am a wife and a stay at home mom. I have been married to my wonderful husband since 1996. I love being a stay at home mom to our two teenage boys. We have a handful of pets, a dog named Lucy (who is in my books), a guinea pig named Flufy, (my son spells her name that way) and a cat named meow-meow, who adopted us many years ago and has never left.

I never liked reading as a kid and I only started reading romance novels in the past few years. Soon I couldn’t get enough of them. My Kindle and I are inseparable now. A thought occurred to me in December of 2012 that maybe I could write a romance novel. So I went to work with the encouragement of my husband and my sister-in-law. It didn’t take long to figure out that I really enjoyed writing.

I entered my book in the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Contest in January of 2013. Needless to say my three hundred word pitch didn’t even make it through the first round. My book never even got read. So now what do you do with a 50,000+ word book? With more encouragement by my wonderful family I decided to self- publish it. So here I am today a self- published author. It has been a lot of hard work but I wouldn’t change a single thing.

It has not been an easy road and there has been a lot of self- doubt, but I stuck with it and I wouldn’t change a thing. I’ve been blessed to have been put in contact with some amazing people that have supported and encouraged me every step of the way.

Peyton’s Ride by Jennifer James

Peyton’s Ride Blurb

She’s about to trade her treasured motorcycle in on a much wilder ride–Ian Coghlan.

Divorcee Peyton Reynolds is ready to escape the the judgement of a small town, bad memories of her failed marriage, and the grief of her mother’s death. A month long, cross-country ride should do just the trick. One last check-up on her new cruiser has her tripping over her hormones while alone in the garage with the town’s sexy bad boy, Ian Coghlan.

Tattooed, pierced, and able to shape-shift, Ian will give her the ride of her life.

Ian Coghlan knows he’s nothing but disaster for a woman like Peyton. His place in the Wild Hunt and killer instincts have held him back from acting on a five-year attraction. When the curvy brunette responds to one tiny grin with a spark of interest, sockets fly out of the toolboxes and Peyton is knocked to the floor.

That month of solitude she wanted just disappeared, but the consolation prize is looking pretty…damn…hot.

With the magic of the Hunt in the air, Pixie pranks abound, and his old biker gang roars into the parking lot, dousing the heat in the garage with the cold dredges of mayhem. Peyton’s life is on the line with his bad brothers’ return to his world, and Ian has to decide if he can let her go or if he’s willing risk her eternal hatred by changing her life forever.

Peyton’s Ride Excerpt (X Rated)

“Yes. I’m sorry Peyton. But I want you to live.” He hauled her up tighter to him and cradled the back of her head in his hand. “I hope you forgive me.”

Tight bands of steel wrapped her chest, and she fought to gain a breath.

The soft, sensuous glide of a tongue inserted between her lips, and coaxed her into a response. He plunged deeper and bit her mouth. The crest of a wave broke open in her, and the sensations she’d experienced before when he’d changed shapes from horse to man centered in her being.

She clenched his hair in her hands and managed a deeper breath. Icy cold and wild, his scent permeated her nostrils and flowed into her lungs. The throb of his erection ground into her abdomen.

Her clit pulsed, and wetness slicked her pussy as urgent need overtook her. Never had she felt this kind of sexual craving. It burned and soothed, claimed common sense and destroyed it on fires of passion. A whimper tore from her throat, and she went limp.

“Figures…” Of course she’d finally get the guy naked, right before she passed out and was half dead. She was a total failure at cougar-ing.

Review by Sue Ellen

I have read other novels that were larger than this and were not even as good as this one. This author has outdone herself Peyton’s Ride, she has taken a short novel and taken everything that makes an amazing novel complete into this short story. You have a 40 year old women who has had her world ripped away from her and her esteem taken away from her by her cheating husband and than also while having to struggle emotionally she has her poor mother whose health is going downhill. She decides to start living for herself.

Sexy Fae Ian Coghlan was kicked out of the Wild Hunt because he couldn’t find a mate, well have you ever heard of faith. Obviously his mate was not in the Wild Hunt I say. 🙂 However, troubles start brewing whenever his brothers from the mythical world comes knocking on his shop. Can Peyton and Ian overcome everything including their past hurt to be together or will everything be too much to keep them apart?

I really hope to hear more from this story or some of these brothers of Ian because if they are anything like him you will be in for a ride. Completely recommend this book and author she packs an amazing punch in her novels no matter the size of them.

Author Interview

1. Did you always wanted to be a writer? If not what did you want to be?

Yes I did. And still do, even after the shiny pretty veneer wore off and I realized how much work I had to do…not actually writing.

I think over the years I’ve also wanted to be a Marine, fire fighter,
nurse, attorney, circus performer, Scottish damsel in distress, tattoo
artist, jewelry designer, painter, home rehabber…..

I’ve done a few of those for real. (Home rehabber, jewelry designer,

2. When did you first consider yourself a writer?

I have always considered myself a writer when I was spending time writing. I’ve veered off course here and there, but I am now firmly on that path. When I got my first publishing credit with LOVE KINECTION, then I knew I was a  professional writer and I had to think about boring stuff like branding and marketing and other stuff I don’t really like to do.

3. How long did it take to get your first book published?

Not long at all. I wrote LOVE KINECTION in November/December of 2011,
submitted it in January of 2012, and had a contract in March of that year.LK is a novella length book, and I think it just hit right…a
contemporary holiday romance, with geeky protagonists, and a snarky sort of chick-lit vibe to it.

4. Do you do another job except for writing and can you tell us more about it?
Well, I am a dental assistant. Have been for a long time. But my biggest, most bad ass dream is to be a full time author and mom.

5. What is the name of your latest book, and if you had to summarize it in less than 20 words what would you say?

PEYTON’S RIDE. Divorcee wanna-be cougar plus hawt, pierced, shape-shifting motorcycle mechanic. A dollop of the Wild Hunt on top.

6. As a self-pulisher, do you have any plans to submit to a publish company? It is my understanding some authors prefer to stay as a self
publish author because of flexibility.

I’m published with Decadent Publishing and Etopia Press. I’m going to
submit to publishers again in the future, but it will be a stand-alone
story that I won’t have to worry about having series rights tied up in a contact. Plus, publishing myself allows me to release books when and where I want, I can price things how I want, and I get a larger share of the royalties.

7. How long does it usually take you to write a book, from the original idea to finishing writing it?

Depends on how long the book is. Novellas and shorts I can write a rough draft in a weekend. Longer works take more time because the story lines are more complex, and need more development. I usually write a rough draft, let the book sit for at least a week, revise a few times, and then it goes to the editor. So even a short story takes about a month from the first draft to the proofread. I think that letting a story have time to percolate or grow (like a nice, fuzzy fungus) lets your brain help you tell a better story.

8. What can we expect from you in the future? ie More books of the same genre? Books of a different genre?

Well, I have a lot of PNR projects, cause that tends to be my favorite
genre. But the big book I’m writing right now is a contemporary sports
romance. In April you’ll see my entry into an anthology called….The Sex Circus. It’s gonna be awesome. Ten authors, all of us with really
different voices. I’m very excited.

9. What made you decide to write that genre of book?

I like to change it up, and even though I’m a PNR addict, I like
contemporary too. 🙂

10. Do you have a certain routine you have for writing? (ex. write better at nights, with music, etc)

No. I love to listen to music when I write, but sometimes it’s incredibly distracting.

11. Do you choose a title first, or write the book then choose the title? How do come up with the titles?

I am *awful* at titles. My husband actually titled both books in my Nymphs of New York series. I don’t start with a title most of the time. I usually have the idea, write the book, and then panic that there’s no title. LOL

12. Are there any hidden messages or morals contained in your books?

Um…I dunno. I have to say that I don’t consciously put any there. But I love strong female characters, nerd humor, and being cheeky. So readers who are paying attention will catch nerd culture jokes. In the Nymph books I like to have the characters make quips/jokes that pertain to Greek or Roman mythology. Mostly, I want readers to have fun.

13. Your favorite food is?

Macaroni and cheese. Chicken noodle soup. Fresh seafood. Steak. The entire menu at Five Guys Burgers and Fries. Loaded baked potatoes. Pepsi and Snickers bars.

14. Your favorite singer/group is?

I am a big fan of P!nk, Katy Perry, Korn, Gary Allan, Eric Church, Maroon Five, all forms of classic rock….. It’s pretty eclectic. Oh! Tool. I love Tool. Disturbed. Skillet.

15. Your favorite Author is?

That’s not a fair question! I have a big crush on Kevin Hearne, Keri
Arthur, Karen Chance, Patricia Briggs, Nalini Singh, Kim Harrison, Toni Morrison, Mina Carter, Rachel Firasek, Lacey Wolfe, Ann Mayburn…. I could go on for like, pages and pages…

16. When you aren’t writing what do you do to relax and have fun?

I make jewelry and swag for myself and other authors. I read a lot. I’m addicted to House of Cards and Orange Is The New Black on Netflix. Also, Supernatural (TEAM DEAN!)….I happen to love horror movies, so I get on kicks where I watch tons of them and terrify myself. I also like to ride my bike, hike, and do home improvement projects. I just realized that I am either a sloth, doing nothing…or I’m getting completely filthy outside. Huh. 🙂

About the Author–Jennifer James

jennifer ashley

For a girl whose first book was called “The Scariest Forest Ever,” the jump to romance may seem to be a far one. But a love of happy endings and the stories she kept making up in her head for strangers on the street lead to an unhealthy amount of time spent behind the keyboard typing away and giggling mischievously over sassy heroines,

sexy heroes, and healthy sprinklings of geek humor.

With time split between a day job staring at teeth, two little girls, college courses, workaholic husband, and too many voices in her head, Jennifer still finds time to sneak off and devour all the books she can find – even if it means hiding in the closet to read them.

She insists on her jokes being dirty, drinks spiked, and tattoos placed in intriguing, muscular places you can only find when the clothes come off.

The Reaper–Excerpt

Death is inevitable. For most, that means worrying about the how, and more importantly, the when. It’s an obsession the marketing industry has latched onto like a leech, and from one person to the next, ranges from the absent worry about leaving loved ones behind to narcissistic panic at leaving this mortal coil.

For some of us though, death is a job. I would say it’s a nine to five, daily grind, but it’s more of a 24/7/365 deal.

Let me introduce myself.

I’m Laney Larson, and I’m a Reaper. Yeah, you heard me right. I said Reaper. As in the big, bad dude with the robes and scythe—looks like he needed a few extra squares in his life? That guy.

Well, not quite.

It’s more accurate to say that I’m his great—god-knows-how–many—great grand-daughter. Hard to tell since no one has seen his Grimness since the middle ages, but every single Reaper carries a piece of him, their Grimm, within. It’s what gives us our abilities and lets us see things that others can’t. Without a Grimm, a Reaper is a standard human with an interesting family tree. Nothing more, nothing less. With a Grimm? Yeah, even I don’t know everything we’re capable of.

I don’t want to think about what we can do. Not with how many of us there are.

It’s a bit like the Santa deal, but instead of presents, there are lots of souls to be reaped daily all over the world. I have no clue how the big dude in red manages it—yeah, he’s real too. And the Easter Bunny? Don’t get me started on that asshole. Reapers spread the load.

It’s like a franchise. You don’t buy into it, you’re born into it. There are Reaper families everywhere, but not all of us get the call and receive a Grimm. When my grandfather died, it skipped over my mom and two older brothers to pick me.

My eldest bro had been so convinced that he’d be the one, he’d gone out and bought himself a costume. Head to toe armored bike leathers in Reaper black, with a death’s head helmet. Idiot can’t even ride a bike. He thought it looked cool though, so he was well pissed when the Grimm passed him over and picked me. You can imagine how awkward Thanksgiving was in our house that year. He’s still not talking to me ten years later. Twat.

So yeah, back to the point. I got the family Grimm—which, by the way, is a cantankerous bastard at the best of times—and I’ve been reaping souls ever since. It’s an interesting job, especially since my promotion less than a week into it.

You see, there are different types of Reaper. My grand-pop dealt with the “Naturals.” Those are the nice and easy reaps, those who die all peaceful of old age in their sleep, or in their garages, or gardens while cutting the grass. The ones who are expecting a visit from the big old GR himself so they’re not surprised to find they’re dead.

In fact, I remember Pop saying that the most exciting reap most months tended to be the old boys who snuffed it while on the job. According to Pop, trying to convince a soul that it’s not still having sex can be difficult. And icky. I don’t want to see no soul’s junk. Ever. Thank God, I’ve never had to deal with one of those.

Nope, after a couple of days on naturals, there was an opening, and I moved on to violent deaths. Gunshots, car accidents, beatings. You name it, I get to wade in and take the souls out. Some fight, but I prefer those to the victims. The pain in their auras, and the relief to see me because they know that their ordeals are over, tears at my heart. Especially the kids.

I’ve put more than a few email requests into head office to be the Reaper who takes their abusers down. Reaping is painless for the reapee. Is that even a word? Huh, I made one up. Go me.

Where was I, oh yeah, we train long and hard to make sure the souls don’t suffer. But since Reapers don’t go to heaven or hell, we’re out of that loop. There’s nothing to stop me from holding up somewhere quiet and taking a couple of days to strip a soul from its body. And believe me, given the right situation, I can be real inventive.

Review by Sue Ellen

This book was amazing! The author definitely takes you for a run on your money with this one! She loves to make you think you have things figured out and then throws a turn into it. She gives you a little back story on the Reaper situation and how it is passed to the next person.

You have Laney who loves her job, a reaper, hey someone has to do it right. She is great at doing it and has never had the issues of persuading someone to only see what she wants them to see until now. When her job takes her to this little town she sees this human Troy. Something seems to be different about him, he shouldn’t be able to see her in the shade form. Little does she know this town is used to Paranormals by this time. Who doesn’t love a heroine that can take care of herself.

Troy is this sexy cop that has been dealing with the paranormal world for a while now but when he sees Laney he can not put his finger on what she truly is. When they both go chasing the same werewolf and she is injured he takes care of her in more than one way. Sexy, protective, and sweet at the same time, I need one of these!

I loved this book, even with the ending it has. Even though this was short read it definitely was a great story. I will have to go pick the authors brain on when the next one will come out because I want to know what is next for us especially with all the elements she has opened up for us in this beginning of the series.

Author Interview

1. Did you always wanted to be a writer? If not what did you want to be?

I didn’t always want to be a writer, no. When I was three I wanted to be a blacksmith, which lasted until I was about eleven, when I decided writing was the way to go.

2. When did you first consider yourself a “writer”?

I considered myself a writer twenty years ago, but it took until around six years ago for me to do anything about it and become an author.

3. How long did it take to get your first book published?

My first book has never been published, it’s an incomplete high fantasy hidden in my files 😉 My second book took around six months though J

4. Do you do another job except for writing and can you tell us more about it?

Writing is my primary source of income, but I also work as a Cover / digital artist and a photographer. Both were hobbies which also became jobs along the way.

5. What is the name of your latest book, and if you had to summarize it in less than 20 words what would you say?

The Reaper and the Cop. Sexy reaper meets hot as hell cop in a small town where the sh*t is about to hit the fan.

6. As a self-pulisher, do you have any plans to submit to a publish company? It is my understanding some authors prefer to stay as a self publish author because of flexibility.

I’m both self-published and also traditionally published as well, so I have the best of both worlds. I like self-publishing for the speed and yes, flexibility with my work, but I also like to work with publishing houses for certain works and series.

7. How long does it usually take you to write a book, from the original idea to finishing writing it?

It depends on the length of the book and whether it’s in series. If it’s part of a series, then it would depend if it’s the first or a later book in the arc. Later books tend to be far more complex to plot, which takes a chunk of time. On average I write a book a month.

8. What can we expect from you in the future? ie More books of the same genre? Books of a
different genre?

I like to write across a broad range of genres within romance, but this year may see me making the jump into psychological thriller, which is something I’ve been thinking about for a while. That’s not to say I’ll ever stop writing romance, just adding another string to the bow 😉

9. What made you decide to write that genre of book?

I write across contemporary, sci-fi and paranormal so I cross most genres at some point. I’ll read anything, so chances are at some point it’ll end up in my writing.

10. Do you have a certain routine you have for writing? (ex. write better at nights, with music, etc)

I write better with the house quiet and no distractions, so I write late at night or early in the morning). I also write to loud rock music most of the time, no matter what the genre or scene. It’s like white noise that blocks everything out.

11. Do you choose a title first, or write the book then choose the title? How do come up with the titles?

I write first, then chose titles. For this reason most of my books have working titles like ‘Dragon thing’ (Dragon’s Honor) or ‘Wolf mental hospital’ (Perfect Mate).

12. Are there any hidden messages or morals contained in your books?

Not always, but I read a lot of Philosophy, so it might creep in from time to time 😉

13. Your favorite food is?

14. Your favorite singer/group is?

I’m eclectic with music. My current favourite is Shinedown after an editor clued me into them. Usually I listen to bands like AC/DC, Thunder, Whitesnake, Nickelback, TOAD, etc

15. Your favorite Author is?

All of them? I’ll read anything.

16. When you aren’t writing what do you do to relax and have fun?

I watch movies with my family, take photos or workout J

 About the Author–Mina Carter

mina carter 2

Mina was born and raised in the East Farthing of Middle Earth (otherwise known as the Midlands, England) and spend her childhood learning all the sorts of things generally required of a professional adventurer. Able to ride, box, shoot, make and read maps, make chainmail and use a broadsword (with varying degrees of efficiency) she was disgusted to find that adventuring is not considered a suitable occupation these days.

So, instead of slaying dragons and hunting vampires and the like, Mina spends her days writing about hot shifters, government conspiracies and vampire lords with more than their fair share of RAWR. Turns out wanna-be adventurers have quite the turn of imagination after all…

(But she keeps that sword sharp, just in case the writing career is just a dream and she really *is* an adventurer.)

The boring part: A full time author and cover artist, Mina can usually be found hunched over a keyboard or graphics tablet, frantically trying to get the images and words in her head out and onto the screen before they drive her mad. She’s addicted to coffee and would like to be addicted to chocolate, but unfortunately chocolate dislikes her.

excerpt 2

An Honourable Enemy by Lily Magee

She stood up and walked towards the decanter, filling her glass. “Tell me. Do you believe France to be a better place for the revolution?” Her voice trembled as she spoke and he felt a flush of longing and shame at his countrymen’s actions.

He sighed and rubbed his temples. “I was but five years old when it began. I’m told of the vile excesses of the nobility. I have heard that whilst honest, God-fearing men starved for want of grain fit only to feed livestock, those with no greater claim to power or fortune than the accident of their birth treated food like a plaything, to create over-elaborate concoctions of sugars and meats and butters and to waste so much.”

He paused and she stood still. A moment passed and he sighed. “Madam, I can only speak thus. If your conscience is clear that those people living under your father’s care had food every day that sustained them and their families, you should have nothing to fear from revolutionaries. Your people’s ears will be filled.”

They were silent for a moment, considering his words. After a small while, she sighed and held her arms, delicate fingers curling around her upper arms. “I suppose it is now not a question that is sensible to answer, nyet? Napoleon has brought his revolution to Russia and until my tsar sees fit to send men to fight le Grande Army, it will happen, whether it be the will of the people or not.”

She looked down and he watched as her shoulders began to tremble with thinly restrained sobs. He paused, unsure how to proceed. He wanted so much to hold her, make all her cares disappear. She must surely see that he—that l’Empereur and he intended no harm to her or to her compatriots. She must know that the Austrian and Polish nation states now within the new Empire had been permitted—encouraged in fact—to retain their royal families. She surely had no reason to be so distraught.

“Madam….” he paused and inhaled. “Madam, this war will not last long and the tsar is an honourable man with good sense. He will surely reach an accord with l’Empereur and stop his foolish trades with the English. Soon you will surely be able to go home.”

She snorted through her tears and brought her hands to her face. “But who will be there when I return? Papa and Vasili…”

She burst into a huge, chest rending sob and emotion and instinct overrode his restraint. He stood and came to her, wrapping her up in his large arms and holding her. She leaned her head against his chest, sobbing. A flood of protective feelings engulfed him and he held her closer, angry at the soldiers who were too hungry and afraid to follow orders. Angry at the tsar for provoking the world’s greatest military genius and providing the spark to the series of events that would bereave this young woman in such a senseless, unnecessary way. Angry at himself for not having the ability to make amends, to make her feel better.

Each of these short stories in this anthology were all a great pick to put together for the readers. All of them where in the same genre but had its own unique storylines through time so you were able to see what the author is capable of writing. I did not have the pleasure to read some of these until now so to me anthologies are a great way to pick up new readers, I know I have.

I have a soft spot for these stories because I have actually been to the city and saw the way it is today, so reading stories of love during this time gives you another view of hope people still had during this time. I enjoyed this story and think that the author did a good job with the events during this time. Not everyone had a happy ending do you think that Hadriana and Victus did?

Hunting His Highland Lass

Who doesn’t love castles and highlanders! Rory came back and found his wife missing but he soon discovered that maybe there was more to the story than what he thought his marriage was. I enjoyed this story because there was such a misunderstanding and you want to take both Rory and his wife Isla and shake them to make them understand that they do love each other they are just stubborn. So while she is playing mouse he will be playing the cat trying to catch the mouse, I do love the ending of this story.

A love to Remember

This author was new to me but she packs a great read in a short novel and I will definitely have to look into one of her other larger novels. When amnesia strikes two people that should have been married happily ever after will have a fight to restore what was lost. This has handsome dukes and gorgeous ladies, mixed with actual romance what wouldn’t you like?

An Honorable Enemy

Can war keep two enemies apart that are fighting an affection? That’s what is going on in this short novel of a noble women who lost everything and a soldier. During these times noble births stayed with their own but with everything that has happened I would probably want to defy laws also if I had a Captain like Amaury to0.

If you like a mixture of reads this one is one to pick up because it gives you various love stories through time and each story is its own! All of these stories I enjoyed but I did love Katinka the most because of her temper and the fight she has in her.  Each of the plots and characters is definitely worth the read, and I would recommend this anthology.
