BOOK BLURB From the moment Anna James meets the strange prisoner Emry Logan, she becomes instantly obsessed and will stop at nothing to try to get another interaction with him. But going against her family and church aren’t without consequence. She is deemed a traitor as she quickly realizes that there’s more to Emry’s past than just murder. He has a special ability that is far from human that he only shares with her. Feeling this magical connection, Anna has to free her beautiful inmate so that they can be together finally, but someone else knows about Emry’s secret and wants Anna to stop digging for answers as she finds herself in the midst of a modern day witch hunt. The life of an innocent pastor’s kid suddenly is turned upside down in a war between good and evil as Anna begins to wonder which people in her life are on the side of good, and is she one of them.

SYNOPSIS

Anna James’ sheltered life is turned upside down the moment she meets Emry Logan in prison.  She can’t stop thinking about how nice he was to her and his stunning yet sad blue eyes.  Then he writes her a letter asking her to save him which prompts Anna to sneak into the jail as a visitor to see him.

Buck Brady is a local policeman who also has a crush on Anna.  Knowing this, she goes on a date with Buck to try to get some answers about the prison as well as Emry.  During the date, Buck slips that Emry Logan is incarcerated on a charge of murdering his best friend.  On the ride home, Buck’s car gets a flat tire.  They walk to Mrs. Anderson’s house nearby where Anna catches her father, the pastor, uncomfortably close to Mrs. Anderson and seemingly in an affair with the strange woman.

Feeling like her secure home life is becoming a lie, Anna finds another letter sent to her from Emry.  Returning the prison, Emry tells her about his home life and that he once was married to the wrong woman.

Hanging out with Buck again results in his attempt to kiss Anna, and her disapproval by punching him in the eye.  The phone rings at Buck’s house.  Anna’s mother is having heart trouble and has been admitted to the hospital.  Once there, Anna is disturbed even more to see that Mrs. Anderson has shown up at the hospital and asks to speak to her father privately.

With more home turmoil as Anna’s aunt, Carlin, arrives to help take care of Anna’s mother, Anna tries to stay out of the house as much as possible.  She sees Emry’s ex-wife in a grocery store and ends up following her to her house just to get a glimpse of another woman who had stolen the prisoner’s heart.

Obsession taking over her mind, Anna dresses as a lawyer to get a face-to-face visit with Emry.  He tells her how he doesn’t remember his best friend dying and tries to tell her that something strange happens to him every once in a while beyond his control.   Then they lock hands and Anna realizes she’s not in Seneca, Ohio anymore.

Emry Logan has transported Anna somewhere else, another world named Evadere.  They are on a gorgeous beach and alone together where they get the chance to talk about each other’s lives.  As quickly as it happened, Anna is jerked back to Earth, her lawyer disguise found out by Buck Brady.

Anna is interrogated by Buck and her father who are very angry with her having been there, putting herself in the position of danger.  Instead of going home, Anna decides to go to a bar, not her usual setting, where she finds Buck Brady and his friends.  Buck mocks her and Emry.  Mrs. Anderson is the one who comes in and puts an end to it.  She has some sort of power over the policemen.

Trying to investigate further into Emry’s life, Anna visits his adopted mother’s house, a filthy, old woman with dementia who slips that not only is Emry adopted, but Anna as well.

Anna still avoids home and goes to Mrs. Anderson’s house where she becomes hidden in the woods in the middle of a snowstorm.  A group of local men, well known in the community, gather around as Mrs. Anderson conducts some sort of ceremony with a bonfire as Emry’s name along with a Lucas Banesberry is announced during the chant.

Anna digs further into who Lucas Banesberry is as she drives to speak with his family.  She finds out a story of a little girl named Cassie who found Lucas and the family took him in and adopted him as one of their own.  However, one day while playing with Lucas, Cassie mysteriously disappeared and was never found again.  Lucas was arrested, put in prison and on his day of release, assassinated the moment he stepped out of the courthouse.  Anna finds that Mrs. Anderson, also known by the last name Hanley, was involved with helping Lucas get locked up.

Confronting her family about her adoption, Anna becomes depressed.  She alienates herself from everyone until she attempts to forget Emry Logan altogether.  She tries to get her sheltered life back, returning to a normal routine at her mother’s antique shop.

While attending her father’s service one Sunday morning at church, Anna sees her father speaking with Lauren, Mrs. Anderson’s son.  They leave in a hurry, and Anna attempts to follow them.  She decides to go to Mrs. Anderson’s house and breaks in to investigate.  She finds Emry’s birth certificate and an old polaroid of him as a child.  She questions why Mrs. Anderson has these items.  Lauren catches her in the house and forcefully throws her down the basement stairs where she becomes injured and trapped.

Mrs. Anderson’s other son, a doctor, repairs Anna’s ankle.  Her father comes to see her and decides to leave her there.  It’s actually Carlin who comes to her rescue to get her out of Mrs. Anderson’s basement and take her to the courthouse where they’ll be announcing Emry’s verdict later that day.

As she’s getting cleaned up in Carlin’s hotel room, Carlin confesses to Anna that she is actually Anna’s real mother.

They go to the courthouse together.  Everyone stares as they enter.  Emry is declared innocent.  He introduces Anna to his attorney, Ben Hanley.  The last name strikes Anna’s memory, and she becomes convinced that Mrs. Anderson is related to Emry’s attorney and that he’s in danger.  If he leaves the courthouse, he may be assassinated in the same manner Lucas Banesberry was.

After failed attempts to warn Emry, Anna sees a woman pull out a knife and go toward Emry.  Anna grabs Buck’s gun and shoots the woman dead before she is able to harm Emry.

The last scene is Emry and Anna walking on the beaches of Evadere together.  A man approaches them and speaks to them.  They realize that Evadere is not empty, but that there is life living there also

BOOK REVIEW BY SUE ELLEN

This book was a great read for the young adult and adult audience who likes to read paranormal and fantasy books. It is about an attraction between two totally different people that should not be together, yet fight everything within including family to try and reach out to each other. On the outside it seems that Emry is in prison for murdering someone yet as you read find out with the help and digging of Anna that there may be more to what is behind the whole story. Anna’s character was a little tougher to grow on me though.

I thought the author brought to you a good beginning to a continuous storyline, as a reader I can tell that the author put in great amounts of thought from a readers aspect because you didn’t get overly amounts of description but enough to keep you want to continue reading especially after beginning of the book. Also, the characters that she brought to you where each unique within themselves and gave you something more to add to each story.

I was given an ARC in exchange for an Honest Review! Overall, this book is worth the price and would recommend it, especially if your looking for something different and with twists to keep you interested.

She soon discovers that it is tainted from a stirring turmoil among the people.   Evadere has been a place of respite and escape from the difficulties of Earth for Anna and Emry, but alone on Evadere, Anna is pulled into the stirrings of an uprising between the Scaves and the ones who force them to live as scavengers. Anna is determined not to let the fear and attempts on her life stop her from finding her way back to Emry.   But Anna is shocked when she discovers who Emry really is, the forces of evil supporting him and how the temptations in paradise have been misleading them both.   It will take all the strength and determination Anna and Emry possess to survive Evadere, even as the killing starts …

SYNOPSIS

At Emry’s adopted mother’s funeral, a group of men attempt to attack Emry and Anna as they escape to Evadere.  Anna wakes up to find herself separated from Emry and can’t find him anywhere.  After having a scary interaction with a little girl, Anna asks for her help.

The girl named Jo takes Anna to where contributors live, people with power.  They try to take fruit from the contributors for something to eat, but the contributors retaliate, and a stone hits Anna in the back.

Jo explains the kinds of people on Evadere, the Scaves who are powerless and the contributors, the ones with all the power.  Anna decides she must trust Jo as she leads her into the Scaves’ camp where she pretends to be one of them.  However, Karn, the Scave leader, finds her out by how perfect her teeth are.  He thinks she’s a spy sent by royalty and demands both she and Jo leave.

Rooney, a Scave and also friend of Jo’s, is supposed to kill both Jo and Anna.  He can’t, however, and decides to join them and run away from Karn.  Jo and Rooney scheme to get Anna to the castle, the only ones who have the power to return her to Earth.  They think they can take a shot with the medical contributors and go there in hopes of receiving their help.  The plan goes wrong.  Rooney ends up getting killed, and Jo and Anna are captured to be prisoners at the castle.

Emry comes down the castle dungeon and finds Anna there.  Surprised, he releases her and tells her how his birth mother is the queen of Evadere.  She had told him that Anna had been returned to Earth while Emry trained to be king under his mother’s supervision.

Atavia, the queen and Emry’s mother, does not approve of a Scave and human being in her castle.

During a meal, Anna is treated like an outcast.  Emry doesn’t stand up for her.  Atavia has invited a beautiful contributor named Raleigh to the dinner to catch her son’s attention.  Leaving the meal angry, Anna finds herself going down to the dungeon to search for Jo but instead finds an unexpected Mrs. Anderson who informs Anna she is from Evadere and goes on about how Atavia had outcasted her to Earth.

While being escorted back to her room, Anna meets a strange servant of the castle.  She learns that this is Cassie Banesberry, who Lucas had accidentally transported to Evadere all those years ago, and she had been stuck here for the majority of her life.

After another disastrous meal with Emry, Atavia and the other castle guests, Anna meets Treyu, Emry’s cousin.  He looks very similar to Emry and tries to hit on her just to mess with a human’s mind.  He finds it amusing.  Emry finds them together and runs off with Raleigh.  Anna searches for him and they have a fight.  She returns to her room where Atavia’s right hand woman, Jillianne, gives Anna something to drink to help her sleep.

Anna awakes in the morning still drowsy and finds Raleigh’s dead body in her bed, her own self covered in the blood.  Queen Atavia blames Anna.  Emry defends her.  Soon thereafter, they discover Jillianne’s dead body.  There’s a murderer within the castle walls, and everyone is pointing the finger at each other, except Atavia is still convinced the blame should be cast upon Anna.  She wants Anna thrown into the dungeon.  Emry settles it so that Anna stays in her room where she becomes unbearably bored.

Anna and Emry have a heated discussion again as Emry suggests she return to Earth, spend some time with Carlin.  He says he will take her back after the public execution of Mrs. Anderson.

Cassie and Anna have a conversation and agree that after the execution when Emry returns Anna to Earth, they will take Cassie with them and return her to her family.

During the execution, royalty is supposed to be focusing their powers on Mrs. Anderson to kill her.  Anna feels intense pain and realizes that one’s focus is on, Atavia.  Cassie screams out as she realizes what’s going on.  Emry goes to Anna who is weak and on the verge of death.  His anger burns as he uses his power against his mother and strips her of her powers turning her into a Scave.

The story concludes with Cassie Banesberry being returned to Earth to her family and Emry and Anna returning to Evadere together to try to figure out a peace plan between the Scaves and contributors.

BOOK REVIEW BY SUE ELLEN

The author has definitely made me love to read her work with the twists she threw at me in this book. Not only did she do the total opposite that you would expect most authors to do with love couples but she also has taken it one step further and gave Anna and Emry both a quest to speak of. Love it! Before I go any further, I love the cover for this one and the colors that they used to represent not just Evadere but the “mystery women” (you find out about her in the book), but also the love couple and the gorgeous world that represents Evadere. However, just because the world is gorgeous does not mean that there are not evil that lurks within it waiting to come out. In this amazing book, Anna and Emry has been separated and now must each go about their own way. I think this actually brought out the real Anna that was hiding due to how she grew up on earth and was afraid of being her true self, it made her become stronger. Even though in this one you have some sadness, but not every book can have a complete happy ending.

I would definitely read the first book first that way you can get a little back story and understand what is going on but once you do you will be amazed and what the author has brought you! I would definitely recommend this book to the other readers, the story definitely does not end so watch out for the third book in this wonderful series.

This one has definitely brought to you everything in a shell! After reading this one I have finally found answers and am happy with the results! The author has given you a paranormal fantasy and thrown you love, war, mistrust, and mystery all in the same fantastic book, what more can you ask for! In some trilogy you lose lapse of times but I have to give thanks to the author for keeping a great flow and not leaving any holes in this story line. Between a wedding and a war what do you think will happen, trust me you will want to go read this and find out for yourself because the author will keep you guessing and I can’t spoil it for you.  She had me on the edge of my seat because of everything I already had invested with the other two books and it was worth the wait. MEET SARA Sara wrote her first book at age six.  Of course, it was only a few pages, handwritten by a 6-year-old and was about kitty cats.  As a child, some days she would be out venturing in the woods with her older brother and cousins, but sometimes would stay inside and create stories, write them down in a notebook and then pretend to publish them by typing them up on her mother’s old typewriter.  “I know, what a weird child I was.”  From then on out, Sara didn’t want to be anything but a writer.  When others would ask her classmates what they wanted to be when they grew up, some would say the usual things, singers, veterinarians, astronauts, but not Sara.  Sara would say writer, and then she’d get a strange stare.  Writer?  What child says they want to be a writer?     Sara graduated from United High School in 2000, a small school out in the country where everyone knew each other from kindergarten up and could tell you every little detail about each other and still can.  “It was a nice area to grow up, and I love going back.”   In 2004, Sara graduated from the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown with a bachelor’s in, you guessed it, creative writing.  She had such a blast in college, met some of the greatest people that Sara still remains in close contact with along with her husband, Brad.  They were married and had two children back to back, so while Sara was in “mommy land,” her writing was put on the back-burner.     Sara started writing again in the summer of 2010, and after three months, ‘Strange in Skin’ became the product of her imagination.  Sara had so much fun writing it, she couldn’t stop.  She would work all day and then stay up late at night typing up a few more chapters.  She didn’t want it to end, so Sara decided she would have to write more books to follow it.  The main characters, Anna James and Emry Logan, were people Sara could relate to, that she loved to relate to.  There’s nothing quite like a sappy love story that’s so good it sucks you in.  You want them to be together.  They have to be together and you can’t stop reading until they are together.  That with a little paranormal twist, and voila, a book is born.      Then Sara and Brad became proud parents once again. Sara is still in “mommy land” but also Strange in Skin fantasy land.  The mix of both raising children and writing makes for some pretty entertaining days.  Sara could write a million stories on her kids alone, especially the things that come out of their mouths that you’re either so shocked they said or are so funny that you can’t stop laughing.

excerpt 2

I was five when I knew something was different about me.

My first memory.

I had no recollection of who my parents were or what they even looked like. All I knew was that I was alone at the orphanage, disconnected from the outside world. I picture it even now, almost like an oil painting: the thick bristles of the paintbrush created the bright blue sky as it connected to the shockingly white snow. The snow blanketed everything around me, as if protecting me, the green forest displayed at every angle.

The orphanage was out of place in such a nature-infused environment. A large, two-story building, its windows seemed to cover almost every surface. I remembered the brightness of the sun as it hit my sleepy face through one of those many windows. It would instantly warm my body, greeting me to yet another day.

Vines covered old gray bricks as they coursed over the external surface of the orphanage. I had nightmares about those same vines making their way into my room as I slept. They’d appear ominously as their shadows pounded against the walls, taunting me as a storm brewed on outside. Venturing toward my bed, the vines would slither across my body, trapping me in place. One would wrap around my neck, squeezing tightly, as I struggled for air. Rendered frozen, the feeling of fear would take hold, bubbling up deep inside my chest. And as I felt the burning pain in my throat, a thought would flash through my mind of this moment being my last. It never was, though, as I would instantly wake up.

I always did have a wild imagination.

To chase away the terror, I would stand before my windowpane the morning after. Sighing in relief, my eyes would be drawn to the vast forest off in the distance. It surrounded the orphanage, like a gatekeeper, the leaves of the trees bristling in irritation. The wind blew right through those tall structures, whistling, as my ears picked up the all too familiar sound.

I somehow found myself standing directly in front of that very forest. My memory was hazy on exactly how I got there but I recalled waking up, after one of my many dreams, to the feeling of immense hunger as my body stirred in discomfort.

Then suddenly I was at the foot of the forest.

I would not describe the sensation as simple hunger. I would almost describe it as a feeling of starvation, like there was some essential component my body was missing. Whatever it was, this need was so powerful I was weak in the knees with the pain; my belly contracted and released, contracted and released, continually. Food provided temporary relief for me, but there was always this presence in the corner of my mind as my brain searched for the one thing my body craved.

I ignored that nagging voice in my head, the one whispering for the one thing I needed. It was something unfathomable yet inherent. I paid it no attention and just openly stared at the forest beckoning me. Taking shallow breaths, the cool air blew in and out between my cold, chapped lips.

It was at that exact moment I realized the forest isolated me from everything and everyone outside of its confines—almost like a hungry bird circling its prey. Even young, my instincts picked up on that, immediately telling me something.

Eyes were watching me.

Fallen Tears Cover

Title-Fallen Tears

Series-Blood Crave # 1.5

Genre- YA Paranormal

Publication Date- January 25, 2013

blurb 2

We left off from DAHLIA with only a name–a name that is the next piece to the puzzle. A name that will eventually, “lead us to him.” But before we delve into the continuation of the Blood Crave Series, let’s answer the question that’s been on all our minds.

Who is Rowan?

This 21,000 word novella answers that question, and of how Rowan has come to know the vampire with pitch-black eyes.

excerpt 2

He looks like a demon warrior.

That was the first thought that crossed twelve-year-old Rowan Miller’s mind as her eyes caught sight of the dark, foreboding figure standing before her.

Eyes closed, she had been lying on the cold, wet grass. Water slowly seeped through her already chilled body while her dark, curly locks surrounded her head like a halo. Her hands felt like blocks of ice as she squeezed them into fists, then switched to rubbing her fingers together. She hoped she could get them warm—if only a little bit. The night had been cruel, both rain and the harshness of the wind taunting Rowan where she lay, as if mirroring the two feelings consuming her.

Anger.

Sadness.

She tried conjuring up more blissful memories from her past. The feeling of hot sand between her toes as she raised her head to the intensely bright sun; the sound of sweet laughter erupting from her friends as she attempted to mimic their English teacher’s penguin-like gait; the overwhelming taste of hot fudge sundae after a long bike ride on a warm summer day.

The look of adoration on her father’s face as he applauded vigorously during her dance recital.

These memories briefly pierced her mind but it was difficult to forget her reality. These thoughts provided only a weak mirage to where she really was.

As it happened, she was alone in the dark, seeking shelter underneath a bridge from the harsh weather.

Rowan wrapped her arms tightly around herself, trying her best to forget the fact that she was chilled to the bone. The whirling sound of the wind continued on as the rain pounded all around her.

She tried forgetting the fact that she couldn’t keep her teeth from chattering, or that her body wouldn’t stop shaking. The fact that her stomach was in so much pain—empty because her last meal had been twenty-four hours prior. It had been half of a sandwich left behind on a restaurant table by someone. They had gotten up to go to the washroom when she quickly snatched the food.

As the rain persisted, Rowan tried to forget that she was all alone in this world.

That was what she had been thinking when she suddenly felt she was no longer alone. It was a new kind of presence, bringing an even deeper chill to the already cold air.

Rowan instantly stilled where she rested, her body on high alert. The streets had been unkind to her and she quickly learned it was necessary to be cautious at all times.

For the past three months, she’d been on her own, struggling to manage life on the streets since her father passed. It wasn’t easy, especially at such a young age, but she had quickly grown up in that time. Running away from a system that she truly detested, she’d fled to this unknown city, hoping it would be better than the emotional abuse she received at the numerous foster homes where she had stayed.

Anything was better than that.

Bringing her mind back to the present, her eyes opened to reveal a man standing by her feet. Although the night was dark, she instantly locked gazes with his equally dark eyes as he stared down at her in complete and utter silence. A lingering stillness overtook the two as they continued to stare at one another, Rowan’s eyes slowly widening with fright.

Her body silently shook, racing with thoughts of how to escape. But as she tried to get up her body wouldn’t—or rather couldn’t—move. It was as if his eyes had somehow cast a spell on her and she was literally frozen to the spot. Her mind struggled against her immobile body with no success. It carried on like that, this stillness, until he finally spoke.

“I too, am alone in this world.”

Rowan Cover

Title- Rowan

Series- Blood Crave Series # 2

By- Christina Channelle

Publication Date- April 1, 2013

Genre- YA Paranormal

blurb 2

Dark. Night. Death.

Things Rowan has been trying to avoid for the many years since she was first turned. Her choice: to sleep away the darkness; it beats having to deal with the craziness of life. Or rather, death. However soon after awakening, she stumbles upon a lone figure whose presence is shrouded with mystery.

She assists him in his search for answers making it even more difficult for Rowan to forget her past. She realizes she can’t hide forever as she is literally being sucked back into her chaotic world: a world where both fallen angels and vampires exist, manifested on earth as lapsus and lamia.

Not particularly … friendly with one another.

Rowan struggles to resist her hunger as a demon vampire while dealing with unwanted desires for a fallen angel from the past: a relationship that could only spell trouble. Not to mention the unresolved feelings she still has for a loved one from long ago.

While all of this is happening, they must all seek the hidden evil that hunts them—for there’s an ancient fighting to wake up and destroy everything Rowan holds dear.

excerpt 2

Boys were too easy—a pretty face and they were hooked. Internally, she rolled her eyes at his response. She could tell he no longer thought of being lost.

Frankly, it was quite pathetic.

Putting on an apologetic face, she frowned, stepping forward. “Oh, I’m so sorry. I didn’t hurt you, did I?” She brushed a hand against his upper arm for added effect and knew he worked out from the bulge felt beneath his clothes. She felt the shiver vibrate through his body from her contact.

Hook, line and sinker.

She rather enjoyed this game of cat and mouse. It gave her something to do and, to be honest, it was rather refreshing. Mind control wasn’t as entertaining and she didn’t do it unless needed.

“No. Um, no, you didn’t. I’m fine.” His voice pierced through Rowan’s thoughts, sounding slightly off centered, almost like a pubescent boy. It didn’t match his physique at all. She watched him swallow deeply, clearing his throat. Rowan bit her lip, trying to hide the smirk forming on her face.

She instantly let go of his arm, eyes widening. “Well, then. Now that I know you’re fine….” She took a step back, smiling as she slowly walked away. She accentuated her stride, allowing her hips to sway gently back and forth when—

“Wait!” She paused in mid-stride, her smirk quickly forming again. Smothering her smile, she changed her expression to one of apologetic sincerity. Hands clasped together, she turned to face him, watching as he jogged over. He stopped, only mere inches away from her.

“What’s your name?” he murmured.

Her candy having dissolved, Rowan chose to suck on her tongue instead for the lingering taste, then gave her upper lip a quick swipe. She watched his blue eyes flicker to her mouth as he followed her movements. She slowly exhaled, her breath filling his nostrils before finally answering.

“Rowan.”

He continued to watch her mouth, not saying a word. He sure was slow. Although aroused, which was easily seen by his dilated eyes, his quick, shallow breaths, the way he looked at her, he didn’t make a move. Rowan was sure if he had his way, they’d be staring at each other all night long.

That was so not happening.

Impatient, she pursed her lips, deciding to take things into her own hands. He was definitely not the pursuer. Taking a closer step to him, she brushed herself firmly against him, feeling his body stiffen. Slowly moving her mouth toward the shell of his right ear, she whispered something any guy would love to hear. Her devious smile locked in place, eyes glinting wickedly.

“Would you like to have some fun?”

My entire life has been a lie: My parents didn’t die in a car accident. They’re not even dead. I’m not American. I’m not even human. I have strange powers, and I’m the heir to the throne of the planet Emreiana.

If I take the crown, I have to leave behind everything I have known here on Earth. I would have to say goodbye to my friends and leave behind Kyle, the boy I’ve loved since I was five. If I don’t, then I risk the Bremoir finding me here on Earth and destroying everything I love.

The cover fro this book is gorgeous with the color contrast that the designer and author decided to use for this book and I think it fits perfectly with what this genre of book is about. What would you do if when you have lived your whole life in one way and world just to find out that the truth has been hidden from you. Yes maybe for a good reason but out of no-where it starts to unravel and something you didn’t know about becomes your reality. Well that’s what happens to our Carsona! The author brings to you a new wonderful world filled with Sci-Fi and adventure with descriptions that will make you feel like your right next to them involved in the story. This is definitely a story that is for anyone and you can tell that the author loves to write with all the passion she has put into the story. I am excited to be able to keep reading from this author.

Just a year ago, I thought I was an ordinary human, and I gave up everything on Earth to save the people I loved. I have become the Lenai of Emréiana, making me the heir to the Emréian throne. It also makes me in charge of defeating the Bremoir, a race that has been consuming other worlds. If I can’t stop them, the universe is doomed.

Then there is Aaronmon, my betrothed. We have only known each other for a year, but our bond is strong. It’s that bond that makes it hard to know my true feelings. While I think I am ready for the ceremony, I wonder if I really love him like I loved Kyle, my ex- boyfriend who was murdered.

But none of my feelings matter. In order to rule Emréiana, I must go through with the bonding ceremony. If I don’t, then I risk losing the right as heir and I’ll have no power in the war against the Bremoir. Nobody wants them defeated more than me.

EXCERPT

A large rock soared through the sky. Around it was an aurora of white and purple. I held my breath and admired its beauty as it slowly passed the window.

“It’s Emréiana’s comet,” Aaronmon told me. “It only passes by once every nineteen years. The last time someone truly magnificent was born.”

I cocked my head, confused. I soon realized his meaning. “Me,” I whispered under my breath. With everything that had been going on I had completely forgotten that I even had a birthday. Of course the Emréian calender was different from Earth’s. I didn’t even realize it was already August there.

“As you know, we don’t celebrate birthdays the same way here. So it wasn’t hard to sneak it past you.” Aaronmon smiled. In Emréiana they didn’t celebrate annual birthdays. New Year was when people actually counted their new age. The only birthday type of celebration was during the third Hurmon moon when they had the nilva festivities. That was when those who had grown into their abilities received their tattoos. Mine was celebrated on Earth before I came to Emréiana, but the community of Inae gave me another shortly after my arrival. Since I already had a tattoo, I had just participated in everything else, which had been awkward since I spoke very little Emréian at the time. Thinking back on all of that, I still couldn’t believe that I had forgotten my birthday.

Embarrassment radiated from me, and I tried to hold it back so that I wouldn’t send the waves to Aaronmon. I guess it didn’t matter because I could tell by the grin on his face that he knew. My reddened cheeks probably gave me away.

“I know back on Earth individual birthdays were the norm, and I thought that this could be something special between you and me,” he offered.

I smiled at his thoughtfulness and leaned into his chest. “Every year?” I asked.

“Well, the comet only comes every nineteen, so we will have to figure something else out.”

“Deal,” I said.

Review by Sue Ellen

Another beautiful design to follow the amazing book by this author. Even though this one was a bit shorter than the previous book. To me it did not fail and still held me in its grasp when I was reading it. A year has passed after our main characters whole world was ripped of what she knew and a new world was brought to her! She has had to overcome so many things and has had to face a huge burden because everything lies in her hands to save the many. Did I forget to mention that the one that came to her was also her betrothed. There is so many new lights that are brought to your attention as she fights to reclaim order and hope to her people to defeat the enemy in this wonderful read. Will you get answers, that my dear readers you have to open this book up and start reading. Trust me this one and the first one will not let you down. I have to give my hands up to our author for the amazing work she had done! I will definitely recommend this book to anyone that enjoys this genre and continue to look out for any new reads by Kristen DaRay.

blurb 2

EMERGE

Laney Walker is a quick witted, athletic, southern tomboy who lets few get too close, using her sarcastic zingers to deflect. She also has no idea how others view her since Evan, her best friend, has coveted her since they were children. But college puts a gap between Laney and Evan that neither of them were prepared for- old relationships are tested, new ones are formed and nothing will ever be the same.

Especially when in walks one Dane Kendrick, not at all the familiar, southern charmer of home, but an animal all his own.

A story of growing up, friendship, loyalty, first love, primal love…and life.

N/A Coming of Age- MATURE audiences.

teaser 1

 review by sue 2

I will have to be honest and say I love this cover the best if I had to choose between this one and the other one. It is beautiful and describes one of Laney’s favorite past times.

Laney and Evan have known each other almost their whole lives from the time he moved next door and “saved” her from a bully. Only she didn’t see it like that of course. Throughout the years they have grown close, became best friends, have done everything together, and even started to plan their futures together by going to the same college. Laney has been brought up as a tomboy and athletic type, and had her dreams set up to go to GSU. Evan, was the guy that treated you like a lady and had a football scholarship. During their Senior year they decided to start taking their friendship a step further. However, due to an unfortunate incident Laney does not get accepted ( you will have to read this dear readers to find out what happened) and is stuck going to a college closer to home and far away from her boyfriend Evan.

Obviously as you can tell many obstacles can lead to issues for long distant relationships and they decide to stay best friends. Laney makes friends who are known as “the Crew” and let me tell you I adore this group of people they are amazing and definitely care for each other as friends should be. It is here where we meet the gorgeous brother Dane, and let me tell you he is definitely who I would pick. The way he looks out and even treats Laney, without the pushiness makes me fall even more for him. However, Laney has to make up her mind between Evan (a boy she has grown up with, and has his faults) and Dane ( a man she has known for a short time) ! Love triangle’s are always the hardest because you find certain parts in each that are better with one than the other. I truly feel sorry for Laney and the decision she has to make because this could be one of the hardest in her life. After reading this and because of what I know I would pick Dane, for the way he made her feel inside and out, no not because of the material things i really think that he has fallen in love with her and wants all her dreams to come true. READ IT TRUST ME YOU WILL SEE WHAT I MEAN!!!!
Through the whole book you can feel what each character is going through, each of the emotional times I was involved with them. I literally finished this book within a day because I didn’t want to put it down. I would recomend it, the Author has written it beautifully and has put a lot of emotions in her writing and I am ready to jump into reading book 2.

My favorite Dane Quote:
“Last chance, Disney. Once I get a taste, I’m coming after you with everything I’ve got.”

EMBRACE

Evan Allen is a handsome, athletic, southern gentleman who now attends Georgia Southern University for no good reason.

After what he expected to be the romantic gesture of the century, Evan is looking at no friends, a year of ineligibility on the football team, and no girl.

He’s starting over alone and doesn’t know quite how to proceed. Certain members of The Crew refuse to let him face things by himself, taking him under their wing, and it doesn’t take the ladies long to notice him, either.

Sometimes life doesn’t go as you had planned. Sometimes it goes better.

Embrace it.

Embrace, the second book in the Evolve Series by S.E. Hall, follows the characters from her debut New Adult romance, Emerge.teaser 2

review by sue 2

Even though I was for Dane in Book 1, I do have to feel sorry for Evan. He has lost almost everything including the girl he has known most of his life. However, in this second part we get to know more of Evan and he even has a second chance at love possibly. You read in this from his and also Dane’s point of view, definitely a different outlook than from Laney’s. I think everyone deserves a second chance, don’t you. Even though he still I think these covers are so gorgeous. S.E Hall is definitely a great author and is capable of writing anything that she desires in my opinion and can write from a women and a man’s point of view. I love the way that she is able to take any character and friendships that she weaves in the book to make her readers want to continue the journey and you can really connect with them. She brings to you romance, friendship, and the daily lives of the Crew. I would definitely recommend this series to everyone that is looking for a read! Can’t wait to read book 3 and continue with the amazing friendships and fun they bring to you
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review!

ENTANGLED

Things heat up, and not just the Georgia summertime, when Dane and Laney go head to head over plans for her new duplex. But Laney’s got his number, and knows just how to coerce her bossy, domineering man. Spend the summer with the gang and find out…just how many is a crowd?

The members of the Evolve Crew are getting older; so is the content. Mature audiences recommended.

Optimal reading order: Emerge, Embrace, Entangled

review by sue 2

This is a sweet novella and let me tell you the author has not let you down with this short written book. While the time has started to pass us by a bit, Dane is still my thought of perfect combination between a sweet and sexy man. And also apparently for Laney, the author shows us the affection between both Laney and Dane throughout her stories and it definitely is hot in this one, but what is the hold up. That is what I am wondering, yes he is a little older than her, but she knows what she wants, yet he seems to be holding out!!! I love how the author keeps all of the crew involved in the story, specifically in this one Parker and Hayden while they are getting ready for their wedding. Definitely can’t wait until book 3 of the series and hope to find out the questions on what is going on with Sawyer because as of right now my heart is slowly breaking because he is definitely not the same fun person that you have seen. Lets just say you have got to read this series to understand these characters and form the bond that I have with them.

blurb 2

Is it possible to reduce the amount of workplace violence in an organization run by vampires and werewolves? Sofia Engle, the new Employee Relations Manager at Cader House Hospital is about to find out, and she may not like the answer, or the series of firsts she experiences: first human employee at Cader House, first day tardy, first kiss with a dead guy. Well, maybe kissing the dead guy wasn’t the worst of it after all.

For nearly 600 years Dragomir Petrescu has fought for The Alliance. As one of the most skilled warriors the Alliance has ever seen he’s killed a lot of people and won many difficult battles. But his newest human adversary is turning out to be a worthier opponent than any he’s met. Just the scent of her disarms him, never mind her endless policies and silly ideals about civility.

Can he possibly keep her safe from Alliance enemies, hospital employees and himself? The term Employee Relations is about to have a whole new meaning.

excerpt 2

Black Magic Rose Chapter One

“Dr. MacDuff to the ER! Stat! Dr. MacDuff to the ER! Stat!” The overhead page sounded for the third time in less than ten minutes. First calling Osgar, then Meg, now Dr. MacDuff. Whatever was happening in that ER must have been traumatic if they needed the head of security then the Director of Nursing and finally the Chief Medical Officer.

The young lab tech sitting across the desk from Sofia flinched and glanced toward the door, then he fidgeted in his chair. Tears welled in his eyes.

“Patrick, though you’ve been doing fine in this interview, I want to remind you this is just a job, not a gladiator challenge. No need to cry.”

He swiped the tear away. “You don’t understand. Cader is the most secure hospital in Rhode Island. I need to be here. And I’ll devote myself to this place. Forever.” He folded his hands as if praying to the hiring gods. “This is where I belong.”

He was right. Cader House Hospital was the most stable hospital and the oldest and the smallest and the only one Sofia knew of whose entire staff was currently comprised of werewolves and vampires and her. Who’d have thought little Wooddale could be so exciting?

“Ms. Engle, when can I start?” Patrick slid his certification across the desk. “And here’s my reference list. Charlie knows me and Donald Cooper, your lab manager, is a friend of my family. He’ll vouch for me. He’ll tell you he wants me here.” He grabbed Sofia’s hand. “When can I start?”

There wasn’t any reason why she wouldn’t hire him based on the interview. He was certainly eager, and clearly, this was where he wanted to be. “Patrick, let me check your references. I’ll call you by the end of the week.”

“End of the week? Can’t you finish them today? I can call Charlie and Donald now. They can tell you I’m really a good worker, and I’ll do anything needed.”

“What else is going on, Patrick?” Recruitment had been a very easy task at Cader. Applicants were literally banging the door down to get into the place. However, Cader did have some very discriminating practices.

For example, you practically had to be superhuman to survive working here.

“I know Dr. MacDuff wants you to hire more humans, but Charlie said you’d still consider me.” Patrick bit his lip.

It was true. Dr. MacDuff wanted to change the hiring practices and bring on more humans. This was the major goal of Sofia’s employment and her second biggest challenge. Dr. MacDuff’s love of humans spawned the theory that vampires and werewolves should be able to work side by side for extended periods with humans without any unfortunate mishaps.

“Yes, well. I have to hire the best person for the job, human or otherwise.” She could barely believe she’d heard herself say those words. Female or otherwise. Black or otherwise. Those were classifications she was familiar with. Human or otherwise was an altogether different perspective.

“I was a patient here once.” Patrick stared toward the door. “Got good care, too.”

“I’m glad to hear you had a good experience.” Sofia knew all too well how good the care was at Cader. It was only days before she’d been recruited to work here that she’d been taken to the ER by ambulance. She’d managed to thwart the burglar but not without sustaining a concussion and several bruised ribs.

The memory of that night made her pulse quicken. Until that attack in her own home, she’d always felt safe.

Patrick picked up the phone on Sofia’s desk. “Just call Donald, Ms. Engle. He’ll tell you he wants me to start tonight. I swear.” He shoved the phone toward Sofia.

She kept her attention on Patrick, ignoring the phone he’d placed less than three inches from her face. The young werewolf sighed and replaced the receiver in its cradle, then sagged into the chair.

Being the only human employee here was so far not only a new experience, but odd to say the least. She’d never had a job where she lived with the weird feeling that everyone thought she smelled way too good.

“I need to be here. Please, Ms. Engle. It’s not safe for me anywhere else.” Staring down at the desk with shoulders slumped, he mumbled, “My family’s gone. Bas Dubh killed them all. I’ll be dead by nightfall if you don’t help me.” He lifted his head and tears streamed from his sad blue eyes.

If there’s one thing Sofia was not, it was a hard-ass. In spite of what every employee and manager in the world thought of every Human Resources professional, Sofia was not mean.

And she certainly wouldn’t be responsible for anyone’s death, not at the hands of another human or Bas Dubh.

“Okay. Wait in the lobby down the hall. I’ll see what I can do.” She handed him a tissue. “And stop crying. This is a job interview. There’s no crying in job interviews.”

Less than an hour later Patrick’s references were complete, he’d filled out all the employment paperwork, and was downstairs in the ER waiting to be seen for his employment health screening. His new residence was listed as Cader House and his training would begin in the evening.

Sofia had wrapped up her day and was headed for the door in hopes of avoiding Dr. MacDuff, who’d been paged down to the ER once again. No such luck. And their argument from early that morning continued. “But Dr…”

“No.”

“But…”

“Sofia, no. If you want to avoid having a guard, then reconsider my offer of housing here at Cader.” Dr. MacDuff stopped walking to level a stern gaze at her.

“No,” she answered without a second’s hesitation.

“Then that’s the last I’ll say about this.” Dr. MacDuff walked away, leaving Sofia standing in the hospital’s lobby, coat hanging open, handbag and lunch box slung over her shoulder, keys in hand.

She glanced toward the man waiting to the right of the entrance, and although his stone-faced expression never changed, she knew he was laughing at her.

“Well, it’s not the last I’ll say about it.” She zipped past the guard’s desk, trailing after Dr. MacDuff, ignoring Jamieson’s warnings to let it go.

“You can’t win this one, Sofia,” the old guard whispered before reaching for the ringing red phone on his desk. “Not with everything that’s happening.”

“Dr. MacDuff, I absolutely refuse to allow this. You can’t force me to accept a bodyguard I don’t want or need. I don’t like or trust him. He’s scary and mean and dead.” Not to mention he had a reputation for being a cold-blooded killer who didn’t bother to ask questions first, later, or ever. She’d heard he thought of only one thing. Kill. Kill. Kill.

“That’s a bit discriminatory, wouldn’t you say?” Dr. MacDuff asked, tossing a casual glance her way.

Sofia frowned and peered back into the lobby.

The dead guy loomed in the entranceway. His broad shoulders and height nearly filled the entire space. He stared in her direction. Black hair hung in his face and stubble shadowed his chin and cheeks. But she could still see his dark eyes tracking her every move like a panther stalking Bambi. She ducked into the security office, knowing full and well he’d heard her. They all seemed to have supersonic hearing. It made her nuts.

Dr. MacDuff leaned around her and checked the lobby. “He appears alive to me, lass.” The doctor sighed and shook his head as he walked to the back of the room.

Sofia followed him to the far wall where he punched in his security code on the panel hidden just inside a fake closet door, another of Cader’s many tricks and secrets. “I suggest you decide what you want to do. If you’re going home, Dragomir is going with you. If you’re not, then you’re coming to the Lower Level with me.” The back wall of the closet rose to reveal a stairwell.

She shook her head at yet another attempt to get her to move to Cader. She hated the Lower Level. They slept down there. Sofia bit her lip. They wouldn’t be asleep now. They’d be awake like him. She glanced toward the door.

“Dragomir is like me,” Dr. MacDuff said. “You forget.”

“I only forget because you don’t act like him. You act…human,” she said. Three weeks in and Sofia continued to struggle with acclimating to the vampires. Though she knew she needed to, and had agreed to be available to staff on all shifts, she had not been able to develop a comfort level with the night staff.

The wolves covered the hospital during the day and early evening. The vampires worked the late evening and night shifts. Sofia preferred to work days, basically only the sunlight hours, which was getting to be difficult as autumn rolled toward winter.

She’d managed to legitimately avoid working the later shift because with the recruitment and new hires, so much kept happening during the day. Thanks to Bas Dubh’s tactics, she’d been up to her eyeballs getting frightened new recruits processed and ready for orientation. The nighttime assaults had increased since she’d started, and that meant more recruits came to Cader for refuge. She simply hadn’t had the stamina to work past sunset.

Then, two nights ago she’d had her first opportunity to spend some time on the floors with the staff. She’d gotten the once-over from a vampire named Carl and hadn’t been able to shake the creepy feeling since. His gaze raked across her like someone rubbed freezing gel over her body. She shivered just thinking about that night.

“Dragomir didn’t have to do that,” she said. The memory of Dragomir’s actions played in her mind. Her stomach turned as she remembered his hand shoving through Carl’s skin and into his chest. As if it was happening all over again, the sound of squishing muscles and breaking bones echoed in her ears. She swallowed back the bile rising in her throat.

Dr. MacDuff sighed. “I’ll agree he responded very quickly. But he did make a clear point.”

Sofia gaped at Dr. MacDuff. “The violence is outrageous!”

“Aye. You’ve told me.”

“Yes! And you agreed not to let these…these…” She waved her hand in the direction of the dead guy. “…vampires and wolves use death as an option for addressing behavior.” She slung her bag back up onto her shoulder. “I developed a progressive discipline process for those types of issues.”

“Aye. I know.”

Her voice rose. “But you haven’t done anything about him! You think he’s safe for me!”  She threw her hands in the air.

“Aye.” Dr. MacDuff patted her shoulder. “He is, lass. He doesn’t need corrective action. He handled that situation just as I would have.”

And this was Sofia’s number one biggest challenge—the bizarre belief that death was the appropriate response to every performance, behavior, or personality problem. She was fairly certain it was this perspective that gave Dr. MacDuff the odd belief Dragomir was appropriate.

Sofia hadn’t been able to make a case to get rid of the brute in spite of sending several well-written emails, including reference material about violence in the workplace, impact on morale, and her own fear of the monster. Both Dr. MacDuff and Fergus, the president and werewolf alpha, responded with, “We’ll take your requests and all the accompanying information into consideration.” Then two seconds later a second email would arrive. “We determined the appropriate outcome is to leave everything as is. Thank you.”

She’d taken to yelling and hissing, banging her fist on the desk and finally giving up in complete and utter frustration. It was like talking to a wall. Or yelling at one.

“My counsel on this issue doesn’t seem to have any impact,” she huffed.

Dr. MacDuff merely offered a slight nod.

Though Sofia had known about vampires most of her life, she’d only ever known two—Dr. MacDuff and Noelle Duluth, Cader’s Director of Nursing. As Sofia grew up, they visited her parents now and again, but their condition was never a topic of discussion, so Sofia never thought twice about them. Nor did she consider that as her parents aged they did not.

Dr. MacDuff still had the dark curly hair and youthful skin of a man in his late twenties in spite of being hundreds of years older.

The wolves, though they hadn’t really accepted her, treated Sofia like she was accustomed to being treated. They liked her when they felt she’d done what they wanted and didn’t like her when she disagreed with them. For the most part, they were completely ambivalent toward her. It was the same way that every other employee in any organization felt about Human Resources, and very familiar.

On the other hand, with the vampires she felt like she had a giant spotlight shining over her head. She literally felt them looking at her. It was as though their gazes held temperatures. Some were cold or downright frigid. Others were warm. Sometimes she’d swear someone was touching her, but she’d turn to find no one near her, just a vampire down the hall.

Dr. MacDuff smiled, and his green eyes sparkled against his pale skin. When he touched her cheek, his hand was warm.

He’s fed. She recoiled at the thought.

“He will no’ hurt you. No matter what you’ve heard or believe. I trust Dragomir with my own life. I’m absolutely certain he will safeguard yours as well.” He unrolled his sleeves and pulled two cuff links from his pocket. Black dragons on ivory backgrounds. The Cader House crest. He wore them every night.

“How can you be so sure? He’s like an animal.”

As soon as the words came out of her mouth, Sofia stopped, knowing she was caught in a sticky situation.

Dr. MacDuff raised his eyebrows. “An animal? More savage than say Donald or Meg or Fergus? What about Osgar? Is Dragomir wilder than a werewolf?”

She shook her head, never taking her eyes off his hands as he cuffed his sleeves. “You know what I mean.”

His fingers worked the cuff links with such speed she hardly had time to process the movements.

“Nay, I don’t.” Dr. MacDuff placed his hands on her shoulders and held her gaze. “You feel safer with werewolves than with a vampire who has sworn a blood oath to me? I’m at a loss, child. I’ve no idea how to comfort you. But I will not risk your safety. You can come down to meet with The Alliance or go home. Either way, Dragomir will be present.”

Meet with The Alliance? Nope. Sofia did not want to do that.

She sighed. “What if he just follows me and then leaves?”

“Absolutely not. Have you so quickly forgotten the break-in and the brush fire behind your house? What about the blown-out tires on the drive home?” Dr. MacDuff stepped toward the entrance to the Lower Lever. “I haven’t. Those were not coincidental.”

“I could get an alarm,” she offered for the four hundredth time.

“By the time anyone responded, you’d be dead.” He didn’t budge.

In two months her entire life had completely changed. She’d become an adult orphan, moved back home to her parents’ house, lost her long-time job at what she thought was a stable company, and been recruited to Cader.  She’d had to finally accept that not only did vampires exist, but werewolves did too, and together they ran the hospital as a front for The Alliance, the organization tasked with maintaining balance in the supernatural community. Cader’s chief vampire was her dad’s best friend who just happened to be a bit overprotective.

“Bas Dubh is on the move. We are at war, Sofia.” Dr. MacDuff’s gaze hardened.  “I never should have…” He touched her chin. “What’s done is done. Now I must ensure your safety. Kiernan knows you work here. If I don’t send a guard, he’ll come for you.”

Sofia scowled at the floor. There was nothing in the world like being a prisoner in your own life. She couldn’t argue. She’d completed enough workers’ comp reports to know Kiernan didn’t play nice. And if Dr. MacDuff hadn’t sent Bernie, Cader’s electrician, to install motion detectors at her house the day of the brushfire, she’d probably be renting a room at the local motel.

“And if he takes you, it won’t be to help decrease the amount of workplace violence in his organization.” Dr. MacDuff had a way of tying everything to Sofia’s number one personal agenda. She’d never worked in a place where it was not only perfectly acceptable but encouraged to beat the hell out of new staff during the training period. She could not allow it to continue.

“Can’t Osgar come home with me?”

“Osgar needs to train the new recruits. He cannot spend all his time guarding you.”

“He’s monitoring all the trainers?” Sofia asked, stressing all. She’d already had a run-in with Rick, Osgar’s second in command. He clearly disagreed with her definition of acceptable training practices.

“I’m sure he is.”

She’d managed to convince Dr. MacDuff to assign Osgar to her for day duty. If she’d thought quick enough, she’d have suggested that simply being at Cader during the day was enough and that Osgar could guard her at night. Instead, she thought she’d save herself from being guarded by another werewolf, a very pleasant, very young man who talked her ear off, making it completely impossible for her to get any work done.

Dr. MacDuff gave her what she wanted. Osgar by day. And then got what he wanted and assigned her Dragomir by night.

Sofia sucked in her cheeks and glanced into the lobby. The dead man faced the exit. His black leather duster covered all but his boots and a couple inches of his jeans.

“As much as I enjoy spending time with you, Sofia, I do have a meeting to attend. Are you coming or going?” He stepped toward the stairwell.

“Dr. MacDuff…”

“Sofia.” One word and his tone said it all.
