I have not read the first one but felt like this could be used as a standalone novel. Secrets will never stay hidden is what I always believe. And in this story that is for sure. Kingson has many of these and when they are slowly starting to come back up, what is a man suppose to do to keep these buried. The author described Jessie Delacort as a bad-girl biker and let me tell you in my mind I would definitely have to say she is correct except with a more descriptive word that I can’t use on here. Love kills I would almost say and these two are definitely in for a ride of their life because with Kingson’s past and Jessie’s love they will have to battle the war that is coming towards them.

The author couldn’t have picked out two better characters than what they did for this book because I think these two balance each other out. While one wants to keep the other safe, the other wants to take the horns and run full speed ahead. I always love to see what authors do with uncover characters and to me the author did a great job with this book especially when they added the extra excitement in. Who wouldn’t want to take down the drug cartel? Lol

First I would just like to say I love how the author has originality in the names she picked. Skye and Shade are siblings who each have the ability to comunicate with each other and animals. However, when Shade is murdered Skye starts to become led into a whole new world that she did not know existed and with the help of her brothers ghost will start to piece together where they came from. Skye quickly learns that not everything is as she as it seems when she starts investigating her brothers murder including the animal fights. Luc lives in two worlds and even though he favors his mothers world he still has to be a part of the Kindred world. So when he meets Skye, he quickly starts to realize that there is more than just physical attraction. Can there be such thing as Faith pulling these two together in this paranormal world?

Luc is very protective over his family especially his sister and mother, and now Skye. When a certain faith brings Nuala and Skye together they have to form a bond and succeed or possibly die as so many others have. Nobody is willing to admit to being in charge of these shifter fights so it is up to Skye and Luc to work together and find out why they are being held. You can tell that Skye and Luc have a bond but are not sure of how to handle it, or even why they are having these, especially since it is forbidden.

The author brings you strong characters that are full of life yet will keep you interested and wanting more. I would have to say it had a great run of suspense, romance, and definitely paranormal. I hope to see more books from some of the other characters that were mentioned. I would recomend this book and others by this author to my readers.

As his lips briefly touched hers, the carriage jolted, pushing him closer to her. He caught her around the waist to ensure she did not bounce off the seat, then, without thinking, covered her mouth with his.

He noted a moment’s hesitation from her before she moved her lips and reached up to tangle her gloved fingers in his curls. Tentatively she touched her tongue against his, causing him to stifle a groan. He had been without a woman for over a month and now his pretty little wife had her arms around him, kissing him as if she had done it a thousand times. She was a quick learner as she explored his mouth with her tongue, pressing herself closer to him.

Devil take it. He had been struggling all day to stop himself becoming aroused. Her wedding gown had been low cut and her stays showed her breasts off perfectly. He had been distracted throughout the service and the wedding breakfast as images of disrobing her later had flitted through his mind. He wanted to see those breasts again.

He unfastened the three buttons on her pelisse, peeling the material away to her side, then pulled out of the kiss and began to pepper light kisses along her jawline. God, he wanted her, and he was most definitely aroused now.

He kissed her neck and was about to place his hand over that beautiful inviting orb, when he sensed her tensing. He pulled away slowly, tugging the material of her pelisse back over her. When he looked into her eyes, they were bright with confusion, passion and fear, all clearly warring within her. He cursed himself for being too impatient. Then he cursed Newthorpe for what he had done and could not help thinking that death was too good for the blaggard.

“No. That’s the only word you ever have to say and I will stop,” he said simply.

“I am sorry, my lord. I just expected some time before… well I expected to wait until we were in the coaching inn tonight.”

“Yes, of course. It was very impatient of me. I beg your forgiveness.”

Rebecca nodded and looked out the window.

The streets of London rushed by as they headed for the Great North Road. He studied the view out of the other window, and they sat in silence for a long time. Eventually Rebecca spoke in a small voice which sounded as if she was on the verge of tears.

“I fear I will not make you a very good wife if a mere kiss frightens me.”

He turned and took her hand in his. He wanted her to be comfortable and not think he was going to pounce on her and ravish her at any given opportunity.

“I have no doubt that you will make a wonderful wife, Rebecca. You just need time and patience and I have an abundance of both.”

She turned large, tear-filled eyes towards him. “You should take a mistress as soon as we reach Scotland.”
He could not possibly have heard correctly. She was giving him permission to have a mistress? Surely not. But her mouth was set in a firm line as if she had made up her mind. A stab of hurt hit him. She thought of him as a rake who would be unfaithful.

He pursed his lips and considered her. What should he do? He wanted to rail at her and tell her he had no intention of being unfaithful. He had taken vows only a few hours previously and yet now she was giving him permission to break them. But maybe the idea of him having a mistress brought her comfort. She was clearly terrified of intimacy between a husband and wife.

“We shall discuss it once we reach Scotland, my lady. I have no wish to think beyond our present journey.”

“Do you not see that I can only ever tolerate the marriage bed for the sake of giving you an heir,” she wailed, pulling her hand away from his. “He ruined me in more ways than you can ever know.”

“You are only ruined if you allow him that power. A skilful lover could make you feel very different about certain aspects of a marriage.”

“Well, I have heard enough tales to know that you are a skilful lover, Lord Ramsey. But I think you should save it for your mistresses.” Her tone was almost venomous but he ignored it, knowing that it was fear that drove her.
She turned her head to look out of the window again. He was at a complete loss. She thought him almost as bad as Newthorpe. Well, not quite but she did not think he would be faithful. A long silence stretched out between them as he considered what to say to her. Her back was rigid, and she swiped at her cheek with one gloved hand.
“What he did to you…”

“What he did has destroyed me, and I am not sorry that he is dead. I wish I had been the one to kill him.”
“Please, Rebecca…”

She burst into tears and fished in her reticule for a handkerchief, he presumed. He held his out to her and with a large sob she accepted it. He untied her bonnet and threw it onto the seat opposite before gathering her in his arms.

She tried to move out of his grip but this time he held firm, knowing that she would accept his comfort, which she did, weeping as she buried her face in his coat.

As her sobs turned into sniffles, which turned into silence then light snuffles of sleep, he held her and wondered how he was going to help his beautiful young wife over her fear of physical love.

REVIEW BY SUE ELLEN:

I have to say reading Historical Romances has to be one of my favorite types of books. Not only is the cover gorgeous, but I have yet to find a book I did not enjoy in this genre. Whenever you know you’re reading a romance during this time frame you of course know the problems that arise in certain incidents that deal with the ton, rakes, and how reputation is everything to family. Lady Rebecca was being courted by the Earl of Newthorpe and when he invited her to see part of his house; she was in for a surprise at the cruelty that was going to be bestowed upon her by him. In his sick mind, he decided that since they were courting he could take ravishing pleasures with her and leave her in a ruination status. Of course during this time rumors flew always high and so her family wanted to go to the country so not to face embarrassment for the Lady Rebecca. However, this Lady is definitely no helpless women, she decides to take the ton by the horns and face everyone. The author portrays her as a strong character, yet with a scared portion around men, who could blame the poor girl. However, one of the most eligible bachelor and friend of her brother decides that he would like to marry her. Question here is will she give enough trust to another man after the cruel way she was treated? Daniel is very patient and you can tell wants to help heal her heart. Through the book as you read you’re able to see the struggle that these two have among each other. While one fights to trust, the other tries to be patient and give space and time. Definitely lots of sexual tension going on during this time frame. This was an enjoyable quick and easy read for those of us that love romance!

Author Interview – Girly Girl Book Reviews

1. Did you always wanted to be a writer? If not what did you want to be?

Not really. I never really thoughht of writing as a job and I was told my imagination was to active… as if that’s a bad thing. I never really knew what i wanted to be until I tried writing fan fiction. Then I knew.

2. When did you first consider yourself a “writer”?

Probably when I first had a story published.

3. How long did it take to get your first book published?

I was lucky. The first story I submitted was accepted for publication. Though I have had rejections since.

4. Do you do another job except for writing and can you tell us more about it?

I am a teacher in real life and that’s all I’m willing to say on the subject.

5. What is the name of your latest book, and if you had to summarize it in less than 20 words what would you say?

My latest book is called “Saved by a Rake.” Rebecca has been ravished and faces ruin until until a sexy rake marries her to ensure his inheritance.

6. Who is your publisher? Or do you self-publish?

This book has been self-published.

7. How long does it usually take you to write a book, from the original idea to finishing writing it?

Two to three months depending on my editor’s schedule.

8. What can we expect from you in the future?  ie More books of the same genre? Books of a different genre?

I want to write more regency rmances but I also have a series on space vampires started and a few contemporary ideas.

9. What genre would you place your books into?

Historical regency romance

10. What made you decide to write that genre of book?

I love the era. It’s so decadent and while outwardly they were all prim and proper, inwardly there was a lot of lustiness and desire.

11. Do you have a favorite character from your books? And why are they your favorite?

I always love my heroes. They tend to be more beta males than alpha males because that would be the kind of man I would prefer.

12. How long have you been writing?, and who or what inspired you to write?

I started writing fan fiction at the beginning of 2011. Friends who loved fan fiction encouraged me to give it a try.

13. Do you choose a title first, or write the book then choose the title?

The title usually comes to me while I am writing the first few chapters of a book.

14. How do you come up with characters names and place names in your books?

I tend to use internet name generators. I just generate names until I find one I like.

15. Do you decide on character traits (ie shy, quiet, tomboy girl) before writing the whole book or as you go along?

I’m a real pantser so I tend to decide on them as I go along

16. Are there any hidden messages or morals contained in your books? (Morals as in like Aesops Fables type of “The moral of this story is..”)

No, though I do tend to try to deal with serious issues and try not to skip over them. I hope I have done jusstice to Rebecca’s ordeal in Saved by a Rake.

17. Which format of book do you prefer, eBook, hardback, or paperback?

Being a mutitasker, I’ve become a fan of books (I can eat while reading) and audiobooks (I usually drive with them playing).

Usually the one i am currently reading or the last one I read, with a few exceptions.

19. Do you think books transfer to movies well? Which is you favorite/worst book to movie transfer?

I think it depends what you want out of the movie. I just watched the BBC adaption of Sense and Sensibility and thoroughly enjoyed it. Most movies have to cut out bits of the story to make it fit the time on screen.

20. Your favorite food is? pepperoni pizza

21. Your favorite singer/group is? Donnie Munro (A Scottish singer who used to be the lead singer of the band Runrig.)

22. Your favorite color is? Purple

23. Your favorite Author is? Depends on my mood.

 AUTHOR BIO:

Em was born and brought up in the Central Belt of Scotland and still lives there. She was told as a child she had an over active imagination—as if that is a bad thing. She’s traded her dreams of owning her own island, just like George in the Famous Five to hoping to meet her own Mr Darcy one day. But her imagination remains the same.

Unfortunately, Em was put off reading and writing by school and although she rediscovered her love of reading many years ago, she only tried her hand at writing again in 2011. After a year of writing fan fiction, she wrote an original short story for an anthology. This was followed up with two more shorts and 4 novella length books, all published under a pen name. Having fallen in love with a new sub-genre, courtesy of books by Mary Balogh and Lynsay Sands, she decided to try her hand at her new favourite genre for reading—regency.

Having bitten the bullet, she feels she has found her home in the 19th century, and it does give her an excuse to watch Colin Firth in a pair of buff breeches and riding books ad infinitum.

Finding the Right Girl (A Nice GUY to Love spin-off)

From the New York Times & USA Today bestselling author who brought you the Nice Girl to Love trilogy, comes a Nice GUY to Love spin-off…

Brian Sullivan has been in love twice in his lifetime. He lost his first love to early-onset Huntington’s, and he lost the other more recently…to his brother. And somehow, his heart has managed to heal itself after both. Amazingly, without therapy. That doesn’t mean he hasn’t gotten more wary along the way, however. In fact, he’s been thinking lately that maybe his brother’s now retired nothing-but-flings rule isn’t such a bad idea. Unfortunately, being the nice guy poster boy and all, Brian isn’t exactly versed in the fine art of flings. So he looks to the outrageously ‘unique,’ provokingly button-pushing Tessa Daniels for a crash course.

There’s absolutely no way he’s falling in love with this one…right?Denim and a sixpack

Tessa has no idea what she was thinking telling Brian that she was some sort of fling expert. She’s never been flung before and she sure as heck doesn’t know where or how to begin flinging a guy like Brian. It was a temporary lapse in sanity, really—no doubt because of the can’t-help-but-fall-for-him brain fuzz that hits her whenever he’s around. Not only does the man have her being more herself than she’s ever been in her life, but he’s the only person she knows who seems to have as many demons and skeletons in the closet as she does. What’s more, he’s got her thinking of the one thing she stopped letting herself even hope for years ago.

A happily ever after.Muscular Male Torso

EXCERPT

“Babe we can’t,” he somehow managed to punch out. Voice gravelly, he drew his hands back to safer territory and said roughly, “You’re hurting and your emotions have gone through the wringer tonight. I can’t take advantage of you like that.”
And yet still, he couldn’t bear to let her go completely.
“Then don’t,” she replied simply, arms twining around his shoulders. “Let me take advantage of you.”
Jerking back to put some head-clearing distance between them was about as painful as ripping off his own skin.
“Sweetheart, why don’t we just hang out tonight? We can sit and talk more about those dickheads we ran into tonight if it’ll help, or we could just watch a movie…anything you want to do.”
He quickly snatched her wandering hands as they traveled down his lats and started tugging at the hem of his t-shirt. “Anything except that,” he groaned. “Work with me here, woman.” Raggedly, he put his forehead against hers and counted to ten to try and find the tattered remains of his restraint.
The thought almost made him laugh. Who was he kidding? He had no restraint when it came to Tessa. By the fifth second, his lips had already found their way back to hers.
And goddammit if her whole body didn’t just tremble right there in his arms.
She was just so mind-wreckingly responsive. As usual, without even trying, she was driving him batshit crazy.
Tapping into a reserve even he didn’t know he had, he broke off the kiss and took another step away from her.
Then he watched in sad disbelief as her expression became completely shuttered a half an instant later—closing him out behind the walls of a now ten-story castle and a moat filled with fire-breathing piranhas.
The lightning quick response time of her defenses was a punch to his gut, a tragic reminder of how much she’d been through, how hard she’d had to fight to not let it all destroy her.
“Look Brian, if you don’t want to, you can just tell me you know. I just thought we had something and we could have a great night exploring it. But hey, I’m a big girl; you don’t have to make excuses to let me down easy…”
He gave her a look that said he wondered about her IQ before grabbing her hand and dragging it over the zipper of his jeans. “Does that feel like I don’t want to?”
Her eyes widened, and her grip closed tight around him.
Bourbon soaked shards of glass went hissing down his throat. “For chrissakes, stop.” The blood supply in his brain was dipping down to a dangerous low.
And the damn temptress was clearly all torn up about it. He glared at the smile she was biting back. “I’m glad you find this so amusing.”
“It’s not amusement, it’s relief. Here I was thinking it was just me getting affected with my perpetually wet panties around you and all.”
A seriously pained groan escaped him then. “To preserve my sanity—and your panties—don’t use the word wet in any more sentences tonight.”
She sighed. “I really don’t know why you’re making such a big deal out of this. It’s just sex. I’m not looking for anything serious. You heard Gavin earlier this evening. Being the ‘good girl’ was never exactly my thing.” She brushed up against the hardening ridge tenting his jeans to drive home her point.
With a muttered curse, he clamped one arm around her waist and tangled his free hand in her hair. “Sweetheart, this thing between us is a big deal,” he said roughly, tugging gently on her hair and nearly losing it when she arched her back in response. Her fitted tee was so paper-frickin’-thin. One sharp yank was all it’d take to rip it right down the middle.
Jesus Christ, he needed to find some control.
“Whether this thing between us lasts one night or ten, when, and yes I said when we have sex, I’ll make damn sure that every single second of it seeps into your bones, burns into your memory, and turns into a relentless craving that makes you forget all the assholes from your past.” He ran his lips along the thrumming pulse at her throat.
“And if I’m really lucky, it’ll also help ruin you for all other men completely.”
