What really happened to the two young princes of York, who were held prisoner in the tower of London by their ambitious uncle following the death of their father, King Edward of York? Some think one son escaped and was later executed by King Henry VII when he returned to claim his rightful throne. But not before he sired a child. In, Under His Protection, the first in a new trilogy, Stacy Von Haegert artfully combines history, action, humor, and sizzling passion to provide a theory for one of England’s greatest mysteries. The bloodline continues… LONDON 1838,
Present day…Title-hungry matrons of the upper class throw their daughters in Alexander’s path. But the Duke of Ravenswood has no desire to give up his rakish, gaming lifestyle to get hitched. When the Kingston family from New Orleans enters London, however, Alex quickly finds himself unwittingly entangled. With her spirited personality and innocent aversion to all things proper. Greyland Kingston completely knocks him off his game. The gossip fans flutter when Queen Victoria asks Greyland and her eldest brother, Perkin, to dance the scandalous Viennese Waltz at the Royal ball. Who is this family? How do they know the Queen? Why do they bear such a strong resemblence to the late King of York? Trouble ensues in the form of jealous women, ambitious men, and a vengeful Irish clan. Alexander quickly finds that having Greyland for his own will come at a steep price. He must risk everything to keep her protected.
This historical romance debut novel Under His Protection by Stacy Von Haegert is by far one of the better ones I have read. When I was asked to review this book I immediately fell in love with the cover and also the story line off the blurb. However, this was not the kicker for me. The author did an awesome job by giving you just enough details in the prologue to get you started and follows with the present day story. You are able to tell that she has done research for some of the history aspects that are entailed in this novel, but she even went further and gave you some action and mystery mixed in with the blazing romance. It is hilarious, romantic, mysterious, and plain fun!!! My interest was very high throughout the whole book and when I came to the end I wanted it to keep going on. Each of the characters brought their own special appeal to the novel, I especially loved Greyland’s brothers.
Greyland Kingston is a force to be reckoned with and have all the men of the ton wanting to fall at her feet, but she only has eyes for one. She is independent, high spirited, and does what she will; definitely not what your true lady should be but made me laugh all through the book. Absolutely loved her character.
Alexander, the Duke of Ravenswood, is a known rake until he sees the Kingston girl. Oh boy, does she drive him insanely crazy and in love. I almost feel sorry for this poor guy at some spots, lol.
However, the good news is it will be a Trilogy and I will be excited when the other two come out. This is a stand-alone novel but trust me when you meet Greyland and Alexander you will want to continue the story when the other books are released. THIS IS A MAGNIFICENT AND AMAZINGLY WRITTEN DEBUT NOVEL BY STACY VON HAEGERT! You will not want to miss it.
