Passion and deadly secrets…

On the run from British troops, American Revolutionary War spy Ryan Sutton forces Emily Nevins to hide him on her English farm. But Emily already keeps secrets that could mean her demise if discovered. Nevertheless as the long night wears on, attraction sizzles and they give in to unexpected passion, sure they’ll never see each other again… Deception and desire…

A chance encounter in London society stirs heated memories of their sensual night together. They begin a heady dance of suspicion and desire. Though sympathetic to the struggling Colonists, Emily cannot trust a traitorous spy who may expose her dangerous intrigues. And Ryan risks his very life by trusting a woman privy to his true loyalties. But they are unable to deny their need for one another, even as Emily’s secrets are about to be exposed, and the noose around Ryan’s neck grows tighter. Betrayal and love…

And now someone has discovered both their secrets. The price of silence? Betrayal. Of their causes, their love, their futures. In the end, lives will be lost and sacrifices made. Their choice is impossible. Which will they surrender—their lives…or their hearts?

review by sue 2

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The cover to me is very beautifully designed and it shows off a boat in the background which is a major part of what Emily is willing to do to overcome obstacles within the book (which could be considered a treason type affair during this time period) . Covers have to have some appeal and as I said this one has a great mystery with the color contrasts to it.

As the blurb said there was an American Revolutionary War raging and everyone was affected by it, people were on different sides and sometimes were forced to keep secrets that would not only affect their reputation but also could cost them their lives and those they loved. Emily Nevins was one of these people, she was not directly involved in the war but due to unfortunate circumstances she had to keep a deep dark secret and continue to help with a certain affair of life to keep her sister safe. Very early on into the story you meet Ryan Sutton who is involved in the war also but may or may not be working for the same side as he portrays in public (can’t tell you this or I would ruin you).  All through the story Emily and Ryan seems to be brought together by faith and of course with her quirky supposedly forgetfulness of names keeps calling him by a different last name (similar to his but changes it up a tad bit). I found this funny! The book was well thought out for and had a good flow with a couple of twists, which caught me by suprise.

All great books that are written in these times must have a villain and the author has put one here too.  I do wish there may have been a little more part with the villains and the main characters, but the author did a good job with all the characters she had in Sweet Treason. All through the book you find glimpses of betrayals and how it may have been to be in a war during these times because seriously you didn’t know who may have fought for which sides since spies were a major part. I think the author did a good job in bringing some of the facts from how it may have been during those time frames. I would read more from this author and do hope that she continues to write more.

about the author 2gail

Sometimes I think I should write a book titled, JOBS ON THE EDGE. My work experience has run the gamut from Inventory Clerk at the University of Montana where I was attacked by a chimpanzee, stepped on dead lab rats in dark basements, and located missing satellite spy cameras. When I moved to California, I became a Commercial Property Manager in the Los Angeles area, troubleshooting incidents as wide ranging as earthquakes, floods, SWAT Teams surrounding one of my buildings, naked men in the Ladies rest room, and rattlesnakes coiled in front of tenant’s doors. When I found my best job ever – writing romance – I moved to an idyllic resort village just south of Glacier National Park where I spend my days spinning tales of dangerous men, daring women, desire and passion.

Once upon a time two lawyers fell in love across a courtroom …

Gabrielle Ginsberg was a public defender with plenty of nerve and Braden Pierce was an assistant district attorney with a whole lot of swagger. Gabrielle wanted Braden and Braden wanted Gabrielle.

And Cameron wanted Gabrielle.

And Marla wanted Braden.

And Cole wanted Gabrielle.

And Mrs. Mason wanted Braden.

And an anonymous letter writer wanted to keep Gabrielle and Braden apart.

Together Gabrielle and Braden discovered many important things, like which doors at the courthouse actually locked, and that desks could be useful for more than writing. They also found out that the path of love was not always smooth, and it was sometimes trod upon by some really wacky people, like a confused fanny grabber, an eighty-two year old pothead and a gentleman who threw a wine and cheese party in his pants. Could true love overcome a lack of privacy, interference by jealous rivals and the insanity of the criminal court system?

NOTICE: This book contains explicit descriptions of sexual situations and mature language. It is intended for readers over the age of eighteen.

“No deal.”

“What?  What do you mean no deal?”

“Gabrielle, the man worked the counter for eight hours with the owner tied up behind him. It’s all on video. I would have to try really hard to lose this case at trial.”

“You want to waste your time trying this? What is it you think I would say to the twelve jurors who gave up their day for that great example of the criminal justice system in action?”

“Maybe you could put on your “everybody has a right to a trial” defense.”

“You know, I’m going to win with that one someday, baby. You had better watch out.”

“Look, I won’t object to him pleading guilty.”

“With no agreement? How kind of you! Well, at least people won’t question whether I’m trading sexual favors for deals.”

“Wait a minute! You never said that was on the table!” he joked.

“I may have no other choice. He worked the freaking cash register for eight hours to get more money! On camera! C’mon, big boy. I’ll let you cuff me for plea to unlawful restraint with a two year cap.” I winked

“Pack up your stuff and come with me,” he said, shaking his head and packing up his own files. I packed up all of my files and followed him out of the courtroom. I saw that we were headed toward the onsite DA’s offices where prosecutors prepared witnesses and negotiated plea bargains. We went in and he led me to an open interview room, shutting the door behind us. I figured that he had taken pity on me and would throw some kind of bone.

“So, you want to discuss a deal after all?” I asked seriously.

“I’ll think about it, but don’t expect it to be generous, and I won’t offer anything if the victim objects.”

“Okay?” I said, feeling a little confused. “I guess I can understand that. So why did you want to come here?”

“Because I want to kiss that saucy mouth.”

“Oh,” I said, surprised, and felt goose bumps form on my arms. We were at work. This was … different. He walked over and stood right in front of me. I could feel heat radiating from his body and, God, he smelled good. He grabbed my chin and tipped my head back. Then he looked intently into my eyes for a second, leaned down, and I could feel his warm breath and sense his lips about to brush mine, when he pulled back, teasing me. I opened my eyes again, unsure what to do and afraid to move. I was about to start panting and a small whimper escaped my throat.

It seemed to fire him up and his mouth came down on mine hard and took total possession of it. So far he had been a slow, sensuous kisser but today he was more greedy and demanding, almost dominating, and I’m not ashamed to tell you that I liked it! He reached inside my suit jacket and ran his fingers lightly along my back, sending shivers up and down my spine and I felt my lower regions heating up and liquefying. After melting my panties for a few minutes he pulled back.

“I have a confession. I tend to get a lot of adrenaline flowing in court,” he said in a husky voice. “When I’m in court with you, I also tend to get a lot of testosterone flowing. The combination fires up my libido like you wouldn’t believe.”

“I should argue with you more often,” I replied a little breathlessly.

“You argue with me all the time. We’re lawyers. And you’ve been driving me crazy for quite a while now. If we hadn’t started dating I probably would have banged half the women in this courthouse.”

“I thought that you had banged half the women in this courthouse.”

“Okay, the other half.”

“You know, I think I’m happy that I’m a lawyer. And, believe me, I don’t say that a lot.”

“Nobody says that a lot. I really need to have some hot sweaty monkey sex with you on Friday. And when I say “some” I mean hours’ worth. I’m talking getting seriously freaky until we pass out.”

“That’s the best offer you’ve made me all day. You know that if I wind up trying this dumbass case, I’m going to make you use that adrenaline and testosterone to service me all night.”

“Well then, we’ll definitely need to sleep in the next day. Now I have to get out of here before I hit the floor … with you under me.”

The cover shows just a fraction of the fireworks you will find in this amazingly humorous book. I absolutely loved this fun romantic book, oh and you can’t forget the hot scenes that the author has added. The book is an easy read but it is for 18 and above. This book will keep you laughing at both Braden and Gabrielle in and out of the Court room. I love all the different scenes that the author brings to you of courts but with humorous situations. Even the judge will have you laughing out loud. The descriptions in the book is not overwhelming and she doesn’t overuse words while at the same time you are not confused with courtroom talk.

Braden is an Assistant Director Attorney, while Gabrielle is a Public Defenders Attorney. Their continuous arguing in court may have started the sparks for something a little more permanent between two different Attorneys.

What happens when you have two lawyers who understand that their work in the court room has to be still profession yet there is sexual friction in the air among cases that a Public Defender knows they will not win because their client is guilty. They both find ways to appease that feeling that is what!

I didn’t want to even put the book down, every moment I was able to sneak a couple of paragraphs at work I would even read it. It is a book that is on my books I will reread on my list. This is definitely a book that will keep you company and laughing when you need it. You are able to tell that the author is truly passionate with her writing by the way this book is written and makes you feel as if you are part of the story. I am looking forward to the second one and until then will recommend this to others who are looking for a funny yet romantic book.

excerpt 2

I made a speech prior to booking the wedding date that there would be no sex the week be-fore we got married. I wanted our wedding night to be special. Now, I think I will be strug-gling with this decision. I plan to make sure I get plenty before our wedding weeks begins. I am wearing Rich’s favorite little black halter dress that barely covers my bum and shows just enough of my cheeks to drive him wild. He loves it. I have been a little bit naughty. Okay, very naughty. I am not wearing underwear and have added my black stilettos. Perfect. My hair is down, exactly the way he likes it, and no makeup. This is how my baby likes to see me.

“Honey, I’m home,” Rich yells as he comes through the door, looking all hot and sweaty from his run. He always goes for a three to five mile run after work. He is a fitness freak some-times, so I would love for him to take a day off from running once in a while.

“Hi,” I say leaning against the doorway in a suggestive manner, my arm above my head in the full-on come and get me pose. “Oh. Wow, are you trying to kill me, Jen?” He winks. “Never.” I giggle, hoping I am killing him. I plan to make that man work his ass off after dinner. “Quick shower and I am all yours, baby girl,” he says, placing a little peck on my lips before smacking my bum and running up the stairs. Rich began calling me baby girl the second time we saw each other. I can’t help but blush when he says it, even after all this time together. I sit myself on a bar stool in the kitchen and wait for him. He is only gone for five minutes be-cause he takes quick showers when I am not with him. If I didn’t have a nice meal planned, I would join him. I might take him for another one later. “I am back, baby girl,” Rich announces as he walks into the kitchen wearing only black trousers. His bare chest on full display and his perfect back sparkling from the water that is left on him. His hair is also wet. He looks so fuckable. Food first. We need to eat first I try to convince myself.
